With the greatest level of appreciation we’d like to thank Tim Barker, for coming on as our major sponsor.

We are super proud of the event we ran with passion & hard work from our committee, however it wouldn’t be possible without financial support.

We love our Sponsors!! Almost as much as we love seeing happy kids.

I think Archie Barker almost stole the show!

The Claude Filleul Memorial Junior Award

This perpetual trophy is awarded to the junior rider with the best veterinary scores in the longest ride at Bakers Scenic Challenge each year.

For those newer to the sport, Claude was one of the founding members of TEERA in 1975. Claude was on several ride organising committees, including the Bakers Beach ride from 1980 through until 1990. He was also an honorary life member of TEERA.

Both Mum (Sally Brown) & myself have fond memories of Claude’s support when we were new to the sport, as I’m sure many others had the pleasure of the same experience. Claude passed away in 2021 leaving a legacy of endurance accomplishments & friendships.

When organising our first event, I was surprised to find there was no memorial award in Claude’s memory and seen an opportunity. Hi wife Edna was supportive of the idea and wanted something which would be encouraging for Junior riders.

After much consideration we have come up with the following parameters assessed in order:
1. successful completion of the longest distance by a junior rider (if no successful junior in 80km can be presented to 40km)
2. best logbook scores (culmination of A’s & 1’s excluding pre-ride)
3. Lowest average heart rate (excluding pre-ride)
4. Quickest time to present to vet

We wanted to ensure the award was given out for quantifiable criteria, that was not related to time on the track, so that it really would be a junior encouragement award that any junior, even the newest to the sport could win, whilst making horse management the key element.

I’m proud of this award, to honour Claude, celebrate junior participation & good horse management & how sensational the Tasmanian crafted leather Arabian looks on the solid chunk of Tasmanian Mertle- I’m sure it will be displayed pride of place.

This year there were 4 junior riders in the 82km event, and all completed successfully.
With a logbook of straight A’s & 1’s & the lowest average heart rate 45bpm, the 2026 winner was Lauren Rattray riding Loringa Voodoo Zooming Fire.
