This poor snake would have been terrified!

As you can see, it’s actively trying to avoid people — which is nearly impossible in a crowded venue.

Snakes don’t chase people. What looks like “chasing” is almost always a snake trying to escape to the nearest cover.

When cornered, stressed, or blocked from escape, that’s when bites happen.

Education reduces fear — and fear is what can escalates situations like this.

The last couple weeks have been intense. I’ve attended snakes in rat traps, inside homes, in playgrounds and caught in netting — and sadly, a child and a dog bitten in separate incidents. Thankfully both were dry bites, but still incredibly frightening for those involved.

One snake entered a home simply because a back door was left open while watering a small courtyard.

Snakes can end up where we least expect them. Small habits like closing doors, keeping yards clean and tidy and monitoring rodent traps really do make a difference.

If you see a snake, calmly move children and pets away, keep your distance, keep eyes on the snake where possible, and call a licensed snake catcher- 0499 881 474.

With extreme temperatures, snakes seek cool shelter to escape the heat. This can include inside houses, garages, sheds, and shaded concrete areas.

They’re not coming toward people — they’re simply trying to stay cool.

Please:
• Keep garage and shed doors closed
• Be aware around shaded areas
• Keep pets and children away
• Never try to catch or kill a snake — it’s dangerous and illegal.

🐍 Today’s sighting
A client sent through this photo of an Eastern Brown Snake spotted on their property today. I didn’t need to head out for this one, but it’s a strong reminder that these guys are active and about.
