PLEASE SHARE - WE ARE STILL ON THE HUNT!

Have you ever dreamed of a job that was mixed practice where no two days are the same? Well, look no further! 🤩
Burdekin Veterinary Services are seeking a full time Veterinarian to join our growing team. We are a private practice located in Ayr, North Queensland.
This is truly a job like no other. Not many mixed-practice jobs have the client reach and service area that we do. A single week at Burdekin Vets may involve a day in the clinic, a day servicing our remote communities such as Collinsville, a day at Cluden Park as the on-track race Veterinarian, and a hard-earned RDO to top it off! 🐶🐮🐱🐴
Yes, the days can be long. Yes, you will be required to join our on-call roster. However, salary is well-above board, starting at 80k for new-grads.
The details -
- Salary pay based on a 38hour week. You will be paid for every hour you work! Any hours above 38 will be kept as time-in-lieu
- On call: 1 in 3 weekends. Your 3-week roster will be a 3 day weekend, a 4 day weekend, then your on-call weekend (working in the clinic on Saturday from 8-12 then tending to hospital cases)
- 4 weeks annual leave per annum, which we encourage you take
- Our equipment: small animal and large animal portable x-ray machine, portable endoscope for laryngoscopy and gastroscopy, equine dental machine, portable ultrasound, equine and bovine reproduction equipment, small animal orthopaedic instruments
- Support: Burdekin Veterinary Services has been providing Veterinary care for over 40 years. We are a team of 5 Vets with our Senior Vet having over 30 years experience. You will never be left without support, even afterhours and on weekends! We know how daunting it can be to be a new-grad with your first emergency after-hours, so we want to make your on-call transition as smooth as possible.

We have had an inundation of stray animals this week! Please remember we are happy to scan a microchip and help locate the owners, but it is not our responsibility to house these animals for extended periods of time.
If you find a stray and wish to assist, then the best course of action is to contact the council on 1300 763 903

It has been brought to our attention that our local pound drop off point is closing. This will be a major loss to our community and we understand each individuals strong personal perspectives on the matter. In saying this, IT IS NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY to re-home unwanted or mistreated animals, we do this out of the kindness and love for the animals and we can only take on so many, our clinic kennels are purely for unwell and hospitalized patients who need our devoted care!!

Please if you see a wandering or 'lost' animal.
- leave it where it is (they will often return home)
- ring the council (they have advised on how to contact them in regard to these matters on their website and page)
- bring it to us, we will scan for a microchip and search our database, if there is no microchip, we can no longer keep them with us, it is the persons responsibility bringing it in to then transport the animal to the council. If there is a microchip, we will contact the owner and if contact is made with the owner we can then keep the animal with us until they arrive.

We are sorry for any inconveniences this causes to anyone but it is our primary responsibility to devote our time to helping the patients that require our care.

AFTER HOURS SERVICE

We have the privilege of providing an after-hours service to our clients for life-threatening emergencies.
There are multiple Vets who are on-call during the week and on weekends. Depending on which Vet is on-call, the phone number to ring changes.
In times of a life-threatening emergency ONLY, please ring the clinic phone (07 4783 2911) and listen to the message, which will list the correct number to ring.
As much as it is a privilege for us to provide this service, it is also a privilege for our clients to receive this service! Please think before you phone the emergency number - 'Is this a life-threatening emergency?'. Our staff have lives too and are not available for advice if it is not an emergency.
Life-threatening emergencies DO NOT include -
- Appointment bookings
- Wildlife - we take on any wildlife, no matter how big or small! We do not accept wildlife after-hours. Please ring during opening hours.
- Stray animals - please ring the council to organise a time to drop off the animal directly to them.
If your animal has been sick for days and the weekend is approaching, please ring during opening hours for advice! Our friendly staff will advise if it is best to bring your animal in. Better safe than sorry!

All we ask is for a bit of consideration before dialing the after-hours emergency contact 🐴🐹🐮🐶🐤🐠
