Another Parvo storm is flaring up in Bunbury

PARVO ALERT - Parvo is flaring up again in Bunbury. Many Bunbury vets have reported cases recently and we have seen a Parvo case tonight as well. At Treendale we see suspected parvo cases at the back of our hospital in our purpose built isolation unit. The dog does not enter our hospital. We are currently disinfecting the entire hospital which our staff love at 9pm at night after a twelve hour day. It is a very resilient virus that can survive in the environment for years. We tend to see Parvo storms in Summer because it can blow in the dust in the heat and hot winds spreading everywhere. Parvo is very easy to prevent. You just have to vaccinate your dog. Please get your dog vaccinated if they are not vaccinated and if your dog hasn't had one for a while, please consider updating your dog's immunity. It's so easy to prevent!
Parvo is a very serious and deadly disease. It is often fatal in puppies. Adult dogs have some chance but they can die too. The thing you need to know is that it’s very expensive to treat. Days/weeks of hospitalisation and fluid therapy, plasma therapy and medication can turn into bills anywhere from $2.000-$10.000 because that’s what it takes to save them as well as disinfect our hospitals with expensive antiviral solutions that are hard to get hold of in a global human pandemic. Vaccinate your dog!
The vaccine is extremely safe, highly effective and inexpensive. It really is awful watching a sweet little dog die from Parvo. It is just so preventable.
