We’ve been made aware of a scam targeting pet owners via email, falsely claiming that their pet’s microchip registration has expired. These emails appear to come from Petchip and may include the pet’s name, microchip number, and other personal details to make them look legitimate.

The Dog and Cat Management Board has confirmed there has been no data breach of the official Dogs and Cats Online database. Genuine emails from them will never include that level of personal information.

If you receive an email like this, we advise that you:

- Do not click on any links or provide any personal details in these emails.
- Contact your local council or the Dog and Cat Management Board directly if you are unsure about any communications you have received.

Our Park has had a revamp with a fence dividing the park into two sections. This will allow for separation of dogs, depending upon size, age, temperament and also allow an alternative for owners who are uncomfortable when the energetic dogs are racing around having a play. So far it's working well, with dogs of similar temperament being able to play happily with each other, and a couple of visiting pooches who were not too keen on sharing with dogs they didn't know, being able to go to the other side of the fence and get some exercise with their owners and a ball.

Thanks to the positive approach by Councillor Cardew and others at Tablelands Regional Council for helping to make the Dog Park a safer place for dogs and for their humans. 🙂🐕🐕‍🦺🐩🐾

Beautiful Bailey is looking for a home, she's a Wolfhound cross and would be perfect for someone to love. She'd also love being one of the gang at our park, so if you are interested, or know someone who may be looking for a furkid to make their life complete, click on the post and you will find the link to click on for more informaiton about her adoption. :)

Bailey | Female | Wolfhound X | 4.5 years | Medium size

Looking for a low-maintenance bestie with a scruffy face and a heart of gold? Meet Bailey — the chill roommate you never knew you needed.

Bailey is the queen of the couch, the ruler of relaxation, and your future shadow. She’s dog-friendly (just don’t touch her snacks), cat-friendly (yep, even the sassiest ones), and chicken-friendly (because she’s a respectful lady). She’s mastered the art of "sit" and will offer you her paw like a distinguished old soul. Fancy!

She’s currently living peacefully with another dog and a trio of cats, but when it comes to dinner time, she likes her space — so separate feeding is a must. A calm male dog companion might suit her best, or she’d be just as happy being your one and only.

Bailey is house-trained, cuddly, and happiest when she’s part of the family action. She will pull on the lead, but she’s working on it and walks better with a halti. Loud noises? Not her thing. Being left outside alone? Definitely not her thing. Being loved, cuddled, and treated like the princess she is? Absolutely her thing.

A couple of days ago, we said goodbye to KC our beautiful boxer girl who was much loved by all those who knew her. She was a lovely older lady who got along with all her fur friends and their owners. KC had health issues recently that took over her body and her immune system. Our condolences go to Gary and his mum. Gary put his heart into KC's health journey, trying to find a way to get her back to being well again.
We will always remember this ģracious girl with kind words and a smile. 🥰🐾🌈

‼️Limber Tail - what is it? This popped up in our email from Tableland Veterinary Service this morning, and I thought it worth sharing, as we have a family dog who has experienced this in the past:

***

Tail issues? That’s cold!

Have you heard of limber tail? It is definitely one of the stranger health conditions that can occur in dogs!
Given that the weather is getting cooler, here’s a brisk refresher on how to recognise limber tail, plus which dogs are most likely to get it and how we can help affected pets.

What is limber tail?
Limber tail is the common name given to a condition known as acute caudal myopathy. It is also called “swimmer’s tail”, or our (wholesomely sad) favourite name: “broken wag”.

This condition involves the sudden onset of pain around the base of the tail and is thought to occur secondary to overuse (that’s right – your pet can indeed wag too much!). It is most common in larger breed dogs, particularly working or hunting breeds such as Labradors, Retrievers, Pointers and Beagles. Pets who develop the condition usually have a history of vigorous playing, working or swimming within the last 24 hours, particularly in colder conditions or cold water.

What symptoms does limber tail cause?
Pets with limber tail will be very uncomfortable when moving their tail (e.g. when attempting to wag it, stand up or lie down, or when lifting their tail to toilet) and will also react painfully when being touched around their tail base. They often hold their tail in an unusual position, either drooping or held out at a strange angle.
Can limber tail be treated?
The good news is that limber tail will usually resolve within a few days to a week. In the meantime, however, most pets will require a course of anti-inflammatory pain relief and as much rest as can be enforced. If your pet shows reluctance to defecate (due to discomfort when lifting their tail), it’s best to have a chat with our team.
For more advice about post-exercise discomfort in pets, consult our injury-informed vets.
