It is with sadness that the time has come to announce the retirement of our beloved COMFORT ME (or as we know him in our stables, RATTY TWO).
Comfort Me was bred by Frank and May Edwards from their brave and much loved mare SOUTHERN COMFORT by the sire PLAYING GOD. His older full brother, SON OF BACCHUS was given the stable name RATTY by the Edwards because of his appearance when they first saw him a few days after he was foaled. So when his younger brother was foaled, he was given the name RATTY TWO and has been affectionately known by that name ever since.
In his 53 starts Ratty Two has placed 45% of the time, with a win ratio of 15%. He has raced every year in the Railway Stakes since 2021, coming second on his first attempt and again runner up in 2022 and 2024. He has also started in the Gold Rush since the race’s inception four years ago, coming third on two occasions.
R2 was also the winner of the Group 3 Eurythmic Stakes in 2024 and came second in the same race this year. He has accumulated over $1759,000.00 in stakes earnings.
Comfort Me is a thorough gentleman and has been a delight to train, always keen to work around the track at home each day or at trackwork at Ascot, at all times, the complete professional.
R2 has been associated with quite a few jockeys over the years, including Craig Staples, Mitchell Pateman, Jade MacNaught, Peter Knuckey before his retirement and Holly Watson, who saw out the twilight of R2’s career and has shown great affection for him.
Along with Frank and May, we feel we have truly been blessed to be associated with this wonderful horse and he shall be very much missed around the working stables. R2 will not be leaving Chysleigh Park though. Kariss is hoping to train him into a successful dressage horse.
Well done, Ratty Two on a fantastic career. Thank you for all your huge efforts, exciting race finishes, wonderful memories, fun times and your big heart that kept your career going for this long. Enjoy your next adventure. We love you.
