Diamond In The Ruff Rescue

Diamond In The Ruff Rescue At Diamond in the Ruff Rescue, we are a 100% volunteer-run, non-profit animal rescue dedicated to saving lives, one animal at a time.

Diamond in the Ruff Rescue (DITRR) is a volunteer-run, non-profit saving dogs and cats from pounds, neglect & surrender. โค๏ธ
https://mygivingcircle.org/diamond-in-the-ruff-rescue/donate/free With no paid staff, our passionate team works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in need. Since our founding, we have remained committed to creating a safe, loving, and enriching

environment for both the animals we care for and the volunteers who dedicate their time to our mission. With the ongoing economic challenges and rising rates of pet surrenders, our rescue has seen a 75% increase in animals needing help over the past few years. Despite these hurdles, we continue to provide essential care, shelter, and second chances to animals from all walks of life. Our core mission revolves around the belief that every animal deserves a loving home. We take in dogs from overcrowded pounds, neglectful situations, and homes that can no longer care for them, offering hope to those who need it most. From fostering and rehabilitating dogs to organizing adoptions, Diamond in the Ruff Rescue works diligently to match each dog with their forever family. By supporting our rescue through donations, sponsorships, or adoptions, you help us provide medical care, food, shelter, and transportation for animals in need. Together, we can give these animals the second chance they deserve. We rely on the kindness of donors, community partnerships, and our network of volunteers to sustain our life-saving efforts. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a huge impact in the lives of our rescued dogs.

BENTLEY HAS GONE TO HIS NEW CARER THIS AFTERNOON ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ

Bentley is doing well overall, but a neighbour has been deliberately tormenting him to cause barking and then reporting it. This makes his current placement unsafe and unsustainable.

He also had a meet & greet with smaller dogs today, which was not suitable.
โžก๏ธ We are now urgently seeking a foster or adopter with NO other pets.

๐Ÿ’› Bentley has already beaten the odds once.

๐Ÿถ Meet This Special Little Man ๐Ÿ’™

Male | Approx. 11 weeks old | Deaf | Catahoula x mix
๐Ÿ“ Near Wynnum, QLD

This gorgeous little boy may be deaf, but that certainly doesnโ€™t slow him down or dim his bright personality. He is an intelligent, affectionate pup who is already showing how capable and eager he is to learn.

Despite his hearing impairment, he is picking things up beautifully and has already learned โ€œsitโ€ using hand signals. He is currently working on crate training and responding well to routine, consistency, and visual cues.
๐Ÿ›‘ Why this matters (especially for a deaf puppy)

Because he cannot hear:

He cannot respond to verbal cues or recall

He may startle more easily

He relies entirely on visual cues, routine, and containment

He cannot hear dangers (cars, gates opening, people approaching)

For this reason, a secure, calm setup is critical.

๐Ÿก What he needs right now

A play pen or safely contained area

An open crate (never forced)

A quiet space to sleep and decompress

Time, patience, and consistency

๐Ÿ—ฃ Important to know:

He will bark, particularly in the first few weeks

Barking is part of normal puppy decompression as well as a deaf pup.

With routine and security, this typically settles

Approx. 11 weeks old

Deaf

Affectionate and people-focused

๐Ÿค Support in place

We have spoken with Hear No Evil Dog Rescue, who are providing ongoing guidance and advice

Volunteers are available to assist with care and support

You will not be left to manage alone

โœจ Welcome to a New Year from Diamond in the Ruff Rescue โœจ

A New Yearโ€ฆ and Theyโ€™re Still Waiting

As fireworks light up the sky and the world celebrates a fresh start, there are dogs who donโ€™t know what a New Year is.

Dogs who spent last night on cold concrete.
Dogs who shook in fear as noise echoed through pounds.
Dogs who were overlooked, unwanted, and running out of time.

This past year nearly broke us.

We held dogs as they trembled.
We fought for those with minutes left.
We said goodbye to some we couldnโ€™t save โ€” and those losses will stay with us forever.

But we also witnessed miracles.

๐Ÿพ The dog who finally slept without fear
๐Ÿพ The one who learned what kindness felt like
๐Ÿพ The senior who thought love was over โ€” and found it again
๐Ÿพ The foster who opened their home when there was nowhere else

Every life we saved came at a cost โ€” emotional, physical, and financial โ€” but every life mattered.

As this new year begins, the crisis hasnโ€™t ended. Pounds are still full. Surrenders are still rising. The calls never stop.

But neither do we.

We will keep answering.
We will keep fighting.
We will keep choosing them โ€” even when it hurts.

If youโ€™ve ever donated, fostered, transported, shared a post, or simply believed in what we do โ€” you are part of every life saved.

From the bottom of our heartsโ€ฆ thank you for standing with us.

โœจ Happy New Year โœจ
With love, hope, and muddy paws ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ’› Ziggy is one of our brave parvo survivors, and heโ€™s come through stronger, sweeter, and ready to start his next chapter.

This little bundle of joy is approximately 16 weeks old and bursting with curiosity, cuddles, and puppy kisses. Ziggy has a gentle, loving nature and is always eager to make new friends.
He loves playtime and exploring the world with bright, inquisitive eyesโ€”then happily curls up on his bed for a well-earned cozy nap.
Ziggy is already showing just how clever he is. Heโ€™s picking up routines quickly, responds beautifully to affection and praise, and is daytime toilet trained, with overnight training well underway. He also understands basic commands like sit and stay (especially when food is involved!).
Ziggy gets along wonderfully with other dogs and is great with children. He would thrive in a home that can offer love, patience, and plenty of time for play, training, and bondingโ€”whether thatโ€™s a family, a couple, or a single person looking for a loyal companion.

If youโ€™re looking for a best friend with a big heart in a little body, Ziggy might just be the one for you. ๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿพ Meet Nugget โ€“ a well-mannered little gentleman
๐Ÿ“ Location: Spring Gully, Victoria
Nugget is a super-sweet, 2-year-old Rottweiler x with a gentle soul and a cheeky spark. He can be a little shy at first, but with patience and kindness he quickly blossoms into a fun-loving, affectionate companion.
Despite his breed, Nugget is only around 25kg โ€“ a compact little guy who loves nothing more than being inside with his people, soaking up cuddles and companionship. While he prefers company, he has been left on his own for reasonable periods without any issues.
๐Ÿ’› Nugget at a glance:
โœ”๏ธ Well-mannered and toilet trained
โœ”๏ธ Walks nicely on lead
โœ”๏ธ Happy, playful, and very affectionate
โœ”๏ธ Currently living happily with a female dog
โœ”๏ธ Enjoys playtime and doggy companionship
๐Ÿก His ideal home:
Nugget would thrive in a home with:
A female dog of similar size and age, or the option to add a canine sister in the future
A kind, understanding family or individual
Older children (10+) โ€“ heโ€™s friendly but can be a bit clumsy with little ones
He loves both men and women and would suit a family, couple, or single person who is ready to give him the love and stability heโ€™s been craving.
โœจ Overall, Nugget is a beautiful boy who truly deserves a home of his own.
If you feel you might be the right fit, donโ€™t hesitate โ€” you may just be missing out on the bestest friend youโ€™ll ever find.

Remember Betty and Wilma were rescued from appalling conditions after spending much of their young lives chained. They finally experienced safety and kindness in foster care, but sadly their carer has received devastating news with a recurrence of breast cancer. With no family support available, we urgently need another foster carer to help these beautiful girls continue their journey toward healing. Now Reba & Asha. ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ’• REBA (aka Betty)

Age: Under 1 year
Temperament: Affectionate, sensitive, intelligent
Energy: High energy with good rest periods after play

Reba knows her name and is a very loving, affectionate young girl. She is still very much a puppy and will thrive with gentle guidance, clear boundaries and consistency. She can be mouthy when happy or excited (sometimes quite hard), which is typical puppy behaviour and will improve with training and direction.

Feeding & Comfort

Reba is not comfortable eating unless she is facing Asha, and she becomes nervy and flighty if separated. She eats more slowly than Asha and needs a calm, reassuring environment during meals.

Her happy place is inside the home with Asha and her humans. She does not cope well being left outside for longer than around 30 minutes.

Care & Handling

Bathed inside using tepid water (shower only โ€“ not a hose)

Enjoys being towel-dried

Responds extremely well to a sharp whistle for attention

Never to be yelled at โ€“ very sensitive and responds best to calm voices and affection

A stern voice only when absolutely necessary (e.g. overly rough play)

A very endearing trait โ€” Reba yawns with a little squeal and puppy yap when she is happy ๐Ÿ’—

Reba has exceptional potential to grow into a caring, obedient and responsive companion. She is highly intelligent. Her early life was extremely traumatic โ€” neglected, starved and chained to a kennel with dirt surrounds and no bedding. Despite this, her resilience is remarkable.

She is boisterous and playful and needs space to run and play with Asha.
Loves kisses.

๐Ÿ’• ASHA (aka Wilma)

Estimated Age: Advised ~2 years (appears younger)
Temperament: Sensitive, soulful, affectionate

Asha knows her name but can have selective hearing at times. She is incredibly sensitive and easily offended โ€” a truly soulful girl who needs to be inside the home with her people.

She is very affectionate, follows her humans closely and looks to them for direction.

Feeding & Preferences

Asha eats very quickly, likely due to her previously emaciated condition. Both girls are not fussy eaters.
They enjoy:

Apples (favourite ๐ŸŽ)

Bananas

Most vegetables

They have also discovered Bega Peanut Butter (xylitol-free only) and Vegemite toast crusts (not encouraged โ€” but they will supervise closely just in case ๐Ÿ˜‰).

Never leave a milk coffee unattended โ€” both girls are obsessed with the smell of milk and will sneak a sip.

๐ŸŒฟ Shared Notes for Asha & Reba

Thrive on clean, soft bedding and fresh water

Bathing must be inside with tepid water โ€” not hose water

Fear of hoses likely due to pound kennels being hosed while they were inside

Play hard outside, then crash and cuddle inside

Love stuffed toys (some survive longer than others!)

Transport & Equipment

Not lead trained

Not yet confident in the car but cuddle together for reassurance

Due to past chaining, only harnesses are used (no collars)

Environment & Suitability

Not suitable for homes with small children due to boisterous play

At this stage, not recommended with other dogs, cats or pocket pets

โค๏ธ Final Thoughts

This information was compiled on Day 10 of being in a domestic environment. When they arrived, both girls were terrified and unreachable for several hours. A warm shower became a turning point, and since then their confidence has steadily grown.

They have weathered a storm together โ€” Asha needing cuddles and reassurance, Reba remaining calm.

Above all, Asha and Reba need kindness, patience, affection and understanding. They are puppies who never had the chance to be puppies โ€” and they are finally discovering what safety, comfort and love feel like.

They must be inside dogs โ€” this is non-negotiable.

They will dig the odd hole, chase lizards, flies and butterfliesโ€ฆ and they will give endless kisses in return.

๐Ÿ’– Asha loves kisses. Reba loves kisses. They both deserve the world.

CARER FOUND - THANKS FOR SHARING ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ

Meet Bruno โ€” a young male Mastiff cross, estimated 1โ€“2 years old, with a heart far bigger than his body.

Bruno has recently been attacked by other dogs, resulting in two smallโ€“medium gashes to his back hind leg and a few scrapes on his face.
He has been seen and checked by a veterinarian, and there are no concerns with his injuries โ€” he is healing well.

Despite everything heโ€™s been through, Bruno remains incredibly friendly and gentle by nature.
Sadly, the pound environment is overwhelming him, which is completely understandable for a dog like Bruno who thrives on calm, connection and reassurance.

๐Ÿ’™ About Bruno:

Friendly, affectionate nature

Vet-checked with no ongoing medical concerns

Good with others

Young, resilient, and eager to bond

๐Ÿก What Bruno needs:

A calm foster home

No other dogs or cats (he needs space to decompress after the attack)

A safe place to rest, heal, and feel secure again

Bruno doesnโ€™t need perfection โ€” just kindness, patience, and a quiet home where he can finally relax and feel safe.

If you can help foster Bruno, please reach out urgently.
You could be the reason this beautiful boy gets his second chance ๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿ“ฉ Please message Diamond in the Ruff Rescue to help Bruno today.

FOSTER CARER FOUND> THANKS FOR SHARING

We are urgently seeking a foster carer for Charlie, who is currently in care in NSW

Charlie has only recently come off transport and is still decompressing after a big change. His current carer has agreed to continue caring for him short-term to keep him safe while we urgently search for an alternative foster home.

What Charlie needs right now:
๐Ÿพ Quiet, calm home
๐Ÿพ No visitors or trades while decompressing
๐Ÿพ Secure yard
๐Ÿพ Someone experienced, patient, and understanding of decompression time

Charlie has been behaviour assessed at the pound with no recorded aggression flags, but like many dogs, he became overwhelmed too quickly in a new environment before he had time to settle. He is not a โ€œbadโ€ dog โ€” he is a dog who needs space, routine, and time.

๐ŸŽ„ With it being Christmas, options are extremely limited, which makes this urgent.

โœ”๏ธ All support provided by Diamond in the Ruff Rescue
โœ”๏ธ Rescue covers vet care and guidance

If you can help โ€” please message us urgently or contact Cheryl at Diamond in the Ruff Rescue.

Please share โ€” Charlie deserves a chance to decompress safely and not be failed again. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿถ

๐ŸŽ„ Merry Christmas from Diamond in the Ruff Rescue ๐ŸŽ„

This Christmas, our hearts are full โ€” and tired โ€” but so incredibly grateful.
Grateful for every foster carer who opened their home.
Every volunteer who drove long hours.
Every vet, donor, and supporter who stood beside us.
And most of all, for every dog who found safety, warmth, and hope. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

While many celebrate with family, our work doesnโ€™t pause. Dogs still need rescuing, healing, and love โ€” and we will keep showing up for them, today and always.

Thank you for believing in what we do and for being part of our rescue family.
We couldnโ€™t do this without you.

Wishing you a safe, gentle, and love-filled Christmas ๐ŸŽ

๐Ÿ’› UPDATE โ€“ WILLOW ๐Ÿ’›

We know the last update caused a lot of worry and emotion, and we appreciate how deeply people care about Willow.

For welfare and legal reasons, we were unable to respond to comments or suggestions while the situation was unfolding. Please understand that silence did not mean inaction โ€” it meant we were doing everything possible behind the scenes to protect Willow.

We can now confirm that Willow is safe.

Willow is under rescue care and has been placed into foster care. She is finally in a secure environment and will now be able to receive the ongoing veterinary care, re-x-rays, and surgery she needs.

Right now, our focus is on keeping Willow calm, comfortable and on the path to recovery. We kindly ask that speculation and advice now pause so we can move forward in the best interests of her welfare.

Thank you to everyone who showed concern, shared her posts, and supported her journey.
Your voices helped โ€” and Willow now has the chance she deserves.

Further updates will be shared when appropriate.

๐Ÿ’” UPDATE โ€“ WILLOW ๐Ÿ’”

We want to be completely transparent with everyone who has supported Willow.

Since Monday, I have contacted Crime Stoppers, the Police Assistance Line, and the Animal Welfare League in an attempt to initiate a welfare check for Willow. Despite providing information and expressing serious concerns for her safety, no agency has been willing or able to intervene.

The consistent response has been that no action can be taken unless the dog is actively attacking someone or an immediate incident is occurring.

During this process, we uncovered information that has significantly escalated our concerns. The individual believed to be caring for Willow is not her legal owner. The registered owner is located in rural NSW. We have also been advised that the person who had Willow is currently wanted by police with an active warrant and has since become uncontactable.

This is the heartbreaking reality rescue groups face every day โ€” animals fall through the cracks because they cannot speak for themselves, and unless a situation reaches crisis point, help is often unavailable.

Our concerns for Willow remain extremely serious. We cannot confirm her whereabouts or wellbeing and, without authority support, our hands are tied.

At this stage, the matter is now in the hands of the police.
If Willow is located and secured, we will update everyone immediately.
Technically Willow is registered to Dubbo NSW

Thank you for standing with us, even when the outcome is not what we hoped for.

UPDATE On Missy and Ronald. I finally received a call from the RSPCA Inspector. The dogs have been collected and receiving vet treatment. I have until the end of the day to let the Inspector know, I have someone able to collect the dogs on Monday at Murwillumbah. So able or willing to drive there.

๐Ÿšจ URGENT FOSTER / SHORT-TERM HELP NEEDED โ€“ MURWILLUMBAH & SURROUNDS ๐Ÿšจ

Weโ€™ve received an urgent call from a carerโ€™s mum.
DOCS have removed her children, and sadly the animals have been left at the property with no one to care for them.

We urgently need help for two beautiful rescue dogs:

๐Ÿพ Missy โ€“ Cattle Dog x Bull Arab
๐Ÿพ Ronald โ€“ Jack Russell x
โœ”๏ธ Both are dog-friendly, cat friendly.

We are desperately seeking anyone in Murwillumbah or surrounding areas who can:
โžก๏ธ Collect the dogs immediately, and
โžก๏ธ Provide short-term care until a more permanent solution is arranged.

Even temporary help would make a huge difference while we organise next steps.

Please comment, message the page, or contact us urgently if you can help or know someone who can.
๐Ÿ™ Sharing this post could save them.

Thank you for standing with rescue dogs when they need it most โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ
