I don’t guarantee this information has scientific vigour- but it made me smile!

A study from Kyoto University revealed that female dogs assess a person's efficiency before engaging with them. In tests involving containers and food, the females chose the "competent" human 83% of the time and preferred to interact with skilled individuals, ignoring those who failed the task. "Females judge usefulness and reliability," the researchers noted, while males showed no preference. The conclusion is clear: they observe, compare, and decide.

We have welcomed and settled in a few families pets this summer/ Christmas and abother yesterday. Accounting for their needs and personalities. All done very carefully of course ro keep everyone safe and content.

Everyone has gone back to bed this overcast cool Morning - we were up intermittently overnight as the newcomers found their feet and calmed and settled into being away from home.

A slow morning to catch up a bit!

I wrote out the story about our losing our pup Jack in the move the other day. Not sure if it might get published or not. It was really traumatic for Jas and I. One of the hardest bits of the move north by far.

Pet sitting has been a wonderful comfort and therapy for me to work through my grief around not being able to protect Jack. I’m almost certain Jas and I would have gone homeless had I chosen any other way. I’m crying again retelling the story. I did my best and tried over 8 months but was unable to stretch even further than I did to get him to safe and happy. Broke my already broken heart quite a lot.

Anyhow it’s nice to be able to turn that pain and loss into something caring and positive and help a few families. Other than an annoying amount of barking on occasion and a huge amount of sweeping the floor -/washing towels and reading doggies requests (spoken and unspoken). Our love of pets is able to be expressed through this little side hobby.

And it stops me from rescuing every dog at the shelter who I can feel reaching out to me from the shelter just up the road - around 1km
away as the crow flies! Maybe when we are on safer ground - but for the moment this is perfectly imperfect and just what we need. And George is such a wonderful kind host pup!

He’s our little star ⭐️
