Manners for Paws is a personalised dog behaviour and training service located in the Inner Western suburbs or Melbourne, owned and operated by Behaviour Consultant and Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer, Sharon Nelson. Using rewards based dog training, we’ll help the humans and paws of your family learn to communicate with each other more effectively and help you recognise what motivates your do

g to want to learn and in turn, provide you with the behaviours you want. My goal is to help you and your dog live a life of harmony, calm and respect for each other. Dog training can build a loving and lasting bond with you and your dog, help build confidence, resilience and problem solving skills and allow your dog to be a happy member of your family. It's never too late to commence your training journey and I look forward to helping you along the way because 'you can' teach an old dog new tricks! :)

Today we covered markers including intro to clicker, spoke about meeting Banks needs through enrichment and sniffing activities and as well as some flirt fun!

GRATITUDE POST!

The little lady managed our first Excellent Vehicles pass today. Sniffing beautifully to find all 3 odours.

Unfortunately the hooman messed up with Excellent Exteriors - she found all three hides but only two were called.

False alerted on the cheese food distractor in Excellent Containers after finding one of the three hides …. and we’ve been practicing with cheese.

Alerted too far away from the second hide in the first room for Excellent Interiors.

A good day of sniffing and she did well to keep up her search drive.

There’s always another trial 😉

We’ve been doing our best to help the little lady with alone time since losing our precious boy Rodney 💔🌈

Chloe already had some good foundations from her raising but until she was alone, I had no real idea how she would cope.

It’s been a rocky couple of months so far, some days better than others and honestly I think I have SA more than Chloe at times, but she is slowly settling and resting most of the day. Aside from a couple of living room checks and a toilet break, she retreats to a space she feels most comfortable - her crate.

I check on her through the Furbo more than I should 😬 and I have a real appreciation for all my SA clients, walking their path with their dogs, I feel privileged to help!

It’s a marathon, not a sprint and taking a kind approach will be more sustainable in the long term.

Congratulations to my special lady gaining her first Excellent pass in Exteriors!

We had Anise (inaccessible) and Birch and Clove (ground hides). It was a great search and we love it when exteriors uses what is there, instead of adding things.

PUPPY CLUB!

We run our puppy classes monthly and they are all things puppy! 🐶

👉 Why choose our classes for your puppy❓

Our classes focus on a combination of typical puppy topics to help you get through the first 8 weeks of having puppy home with you and creating a bond and relationship with your new puppy, that will see you head into adolescence with more knowledge and skills to adapt to your puppy’s growth phases.

Our classes are small (no more than 6 pups) so we can provide one on one support in a group setting with plenty of time for learning and those pressing questions.

We also offer unlimited email support for the duration of our course!

👉 What will you and your pup learn❓

✏️ Socialisation - what socialisation actually is and how to socialise your new puppy that doesn’t include taking your puppy to a dog park.
✏️ Help with toilet training, puppy biting and independence training all via our pre recorded online presentation.
✏️ Confidence Building - teaching pups to adapt to change through confidence building exercises.
✏️ Enrichment activities - teaching pups to develop problem solving skills and help them learn decompression exercises.
✏️ Creating a solid relationship through training, recalls, markers, lead basics, tricks, mat training, grooming and cooperative care.
✏️ Body language - how to read your pups body language so you understand how they’re feeling and coping in certain situations.

When he’s on, he’s on so harnessing this to create new patterns of behaviour will see his training and impulse control improve greatly!
