Manners for Paws is a personalised dog behaviour and training service located in the Inner Western suburbs or Melbourne, owned and operated by Behaviour Consultant and Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer, Sharon Nelson. Using rewards based dog training, we’ll help the humans and paws of your family learn to communicate with each other more effectively and help you recognise what motivates your do

g to want to learn and in turn, provide you with the behaviours you want. My goal is to help you and your dog live a life of harmony, calm and respect for each other. Dog training can build a loving and lasting bond with you and your dog, help build confidence, resilience and problem solving skills and allow your dog to be a happy member of your family. It's never too late to commence your training journey and I look forward to helping you along the way because 'you can' teach an old dog new tricks! :)

Lovely to meet this girl and her Dad today.

Seeking help for dog reactivity, our first session is always about foundation behaviours. Markers, decompression exercises, turns and lead skills.

Before we can start working on the real problem, both the owners and their dogs need to understand foundations first.

She’s motivated to train and did really well in this session.

This little guy is doing so well with his alone time training, achieving just over a minute without any stress signals.

It’s a massive win for him, he can escalate pretty quickly and sometimes has a bit of a hissy fit and knowing when it’s a tantrum versus anxiety is critical for his success and ability to progress.

We try and take a holistic approach to training by helping owners work on demanding behaviours from their dogs, to try and build more independence and confidence. We find this is an integral part of the process.

We finished up our package with Lenny today. So much to unpack with this little dude and much learning for us all.

Fear based flight responses, lack of early socialisation from a young puppy making it hard for him to process change and adapt at a normal rate and comfortably.

We hope to hear his progress soon.
