Nothing like taking a green horse to the train station at Scone. 🚉! Not that he overly cared!

🌟One for the riders looking for a low-pressure exercise that builds big results in body control.

👉 Half passing while weaving.
Stay close to the cones, always keep your horse’s nose tipped toward them, and maintain forward momentum so it doesn’t turn into a slide pass.

This drill is fantastic for hand and leg coordination, sharpening both horse and rider. Yes, it might look boring on the outside, but it’s these “boring” exercises that refine and shape the fancy manoeuvres we all love to watch. 🤠

🌟Lessons resuming on the 8th of October.

💪Consistency is what gets you ahead, if you're not consistent be fair on your horse, be fair with your goals, be fair with your trainer, and be fair with yourself.
If riding often seem overwhelming and like a big commitment, just start with one goal and spend a minimum of 15 minutes a day, you will achieve a lot more with 15 minute a day than 2 hours on the weekend trying to make up for lost time and commitment. It's just like trying to build muscle in the gym except it's you and your horses muscle memory and habits you are trying to form!

Training Tip:
A great exercise to keep your horse’s shoulders up during lead changes, prevent anticipation, and support them mentally is to change leads while staying on the same circle in a counter canter. Once the horse is balanced and stops trying to take over, that’s when I guide them to the change of direction onto the correct lead.

Notice how this horse stays straight before the change of direction—that balance and straightness are key to a correct transition.

*I hope this 30 second video can help someone who might be struggling with a horse who drops its shoulder into the new lead or kicks out during a lead change.

🌟Currently have 2 spot available for training Mid October.

Working with my mum and her young horse she’s been bringing along. She was having some trouble with getting a balanced lead departures to the right which resulted in either rushed departures with a couple of trot steps or picking up the wrong lead, nothing major or naughty just needed help to sort his feet out and keeping the engagement.

🌱Foundation training started on Pep 2, circling exceptionally well and taking the correct lead off my out side leg. Under 60 rides with a break in the middle we are happy with where he’s at.

Future performance horse is under way 😁 whether we want to rein, ranch or cowhorse this horse will be in a program for the next year to establish all his manoeuvres and get him confident in the pen.
*Our reining manoeuvres are just refined basics, it’s not trick training, it’s the time and knowledge that goes into them.

Our Story

Training Horsemanship Clinics Foundations for Reining horses Lessons School horses Sale of horse We specialise in but are not limited to reining and western performance training. We also re-educate horses and riders to address behavioural problems. Other specialties are show preparation, sales preparation and training for longevity.

Dressage foundation training starts by getting the horse to go long, low, relaxed and forward to build great muscle structure in the top line of the horse. Good strength is needed for dressage moves enabling a rhythmic and controlled stride.

Reining and Western Performance Training focuses on excellent body control and a relaxed happy minded horse. We help horses find that comfort zone where they feel good and balanced and enjoy their job.
