Everyone wants a dog that’s obsessed with them.

But obsession isn’t love — it’s anxiety.

The dog that can’t settle without you. That follows you room to room. That loses it the moment you leave.

That’s not devotion. That’s a dog that’s never learned to feel safe on its own.

Engagement is different. It’s a dog that checks in with you on a walk. That looks to you when something scary appears. That settles when you settle.

You don’t build that by being constantly available. You build it by becoming interesting. By rewarding check-ins, not demands. By building confidence so your dog doesn’t need you to function — they just choose you.

That’s the foundation of everything I work on.

Before you decide your dog is stubborn — consider this: “sit” is a meaningless sound until a dog learns what it signals. So is “come,” “stay,” or “leave it.”

Most training frustration comes from a gap in communication, not a flaw in the dog (or the owner).

Sometimes “naughty” behaviour isn’t disobedience.
It’s over-arousal.

When a dog’s emotional intensity spikes, thinking disappears.
Listening drops.
Impulse control vanishes.
Reactions take over.

That doesn’t mean your dog is bad.
It means they need help learning how to regulate.
