You might remember our post about the big ginger fluff who turned up on the porch of one of our rescue members. Despite our efforts to locate his family, unfortunately no owner came forward to claim him.

Affectionately named MoMo—which translates to Peach—this handsome boy has come a long way since arriving in our care. He has successfully recovered from an ulcer on his tongue and muscle pain in his legs, and has now been fully vet-worked, including desexing, vaccination, microchipping, and parasite treatments.

During his time in foster care, MoMo has earned the tick of approval for living with other cats and young children. He is a gentle giant who enjoys the finer things in life: racing around the house with the zoomies, playing with toys, endless brushing sessions, and curling up for long nap-time cuddles on the couch.

Scrolling through social media, posts about animal neglect and the horrible ways cats are treated by humans have become far too common on our newsfeeds. Post after post of confronting proof of just how cruel and careless people can be. Begging people to be more careful when “rehoming.” People justifying dumping animals because rescues are full. We hadn't planned on making one ourselves.

Typically, our rescue only deals with strays and colonies, but today was different.

We often work closely with Help 4 felines in need. Different specialties, same goal: helping cats. Today had us collecting a surrendered cat and transporting him for urgent medical attention.

A cat who, in the last 6 months, has had 3 different owners.

A cat who spent the last 4 weeks with someone who knew he needed medical treatment and still did nothing.

4 weeks of medical neglect.
4 weeks of suffering.
4 weeks of pain.

This is what “give away” and “rehoming” pages create. This is the ugly reality hidden behind the “we were only trying to help” excuses.

This is what people don’t think about when they look for “free” cats.

People in these groups justify situations like this all the time:
“Well, at least we got him off the street and somewhere safe.”

But is it really “safe” to leave an animal suffering for weeks without medication, pain relief, or basic veterinary care?

If you are not willing or able to provide urgent medical treatment when it’s needed, DO NOT rescue an animal.

Being indoors does not automatically mean an animal is safe. A cat suffering in pain without treatment is still suffering.

When rescues say, “Sorry, we’re full,” it is not because we do not care. It is because we are operating beyond capacity and resources.

Tonight, we are left feeling horror, anger, disgust, and heartbreak. Mostly sadness. Sadness for him.

Tomorrow, he will be going into the care of Help 4 Felines in Need. We are simply the transport team in this situation, but some things need to be shared.

Staying silent sometimes feels too much like complacency.

Have you lost your cat??
This gorgeous smooch was found on a front porch waiting for help on Thursday night in Elizabeth Downs.

Its clear he has been living on the streets for a short time but he was definitely a loved family member at one point.

Meet Zoe & Abby

These beautiful girls are now available for pre-adoption.

Zoe and Abby came into care with their brother after being rescued from an abandoned house. When they first arrived, they were in heartbreaking condition, but thanks to lots of love and care, they’ve made a full recovery and are now thriving.

The girls are currently in foster care alongside their brother, who has happily found his forever home with their foster mum. Now it’s Zoe and Abby’s turn to find loving families of their own.

They are playful, affectionate sweethearts who love attention and companionship. Both girls are indoor-only and cat-run trained. They have been raised around a young child and have done wonderfully, though they have not yet been dog tested.

Meet Fable and Princess Butter — two gorgeous girls ready to find their forever homes.

Fable is the sister to Melora and Indiana, and she’s best known for quietly shadowing her rescue humans wherever they go. She may seem shy at first, but don’t let that fool you — if she feels she’s not getting enough attention, she’ll happily serenade you with her sweet little songs. Fable has a gentle, observant nature and loves simply being near her people.

Princess Butter, daughter of Seaton colony mum Cali, was born in rescue care and has never spent a day on the streets. This little foodie absolutely adores mealtime and believes sharing snacks is highly overrated! Full of personality and affection, she’s grown up surrounded by love and care.

Both girls have been cat and child tested, with plenty of exposure to children while in foster care. Whether joining a family with existing pets or becoming the centre of attention as the only cat in the home, these lovely ladies are sure to make the purrfect family companions.

Haze, Hallow, and Dorito are still patiently waiting to find their forever homes.

These three gorgeous kitties have all been raised in rescue care and have grown up around children, making them loving, well-socialised companions. While they’re still young, playful, and full of personality, they’re equally gentle, affectionate, and ready to bring endless cuddles to their future families.

This week we said a happy goodbye to Cinnamon and Coco!

These sweet mums have been in care for over 5 months. Coco welcomed 6 beautiful babies into the rescue, and Cinnamon had 4 of her own, with only 2 still waiting for their forever families.

Now it’s finally their turn for a happily ever after in loving forever homes. There have been lots of happy tears, big smiles, and so much joy seeing these lovely girls begin their next chapter.
