This is Astro, a young male British Short Haired cat. He came to see Dr. Paul due to having what's known as bilateral entropion. Entropion is a condition in which the eyelid is turned inwards so that the eyelashes rub against the eyeball. This condition causes not only great discomfort as you can imagine, but it can also cause damage to the transparent covering in the front part of the eye (cornea), eye infections, and even vision loss.

Dr Paul performed surgery on both of Astro's eyes which was successful. Now Astro can live a life free from eye pain. He was such a little trooper.

This handsome fellows name is Gus. He's a 2 year old Labrador Retriever who got himself into a bit of a mischief. His lovely owners were extremely worried as they believed he had swallowed one of his toys (a rubber ball).

Dr Paul injected Gus with some medicine that made him vomit. After some hefty vomits, there was no sign of the ball in question. However, he did bring up parts of his bedding! After several x-rays, Dr Paul determined that there was no ball inside of Gus and that it was great that he was able to vomit up his bedding.

Now it's 2 days later, and everything is looking great for Gus and his owner found the ellusive ball... it had bounced into a cupboard instead of Gus's belly. 😊

9 Reasons to keep your pet cat indoors

1. They're likely to live longer

2. Keeps your cat safe from cruelty or acts of abuse.

3. Safe from traps or poison

4. Keeps them safe from getting stolen or going missing.

5. Helps to protect local wildlife.

6. Keeps them safe from being hit by a car.

7. Won't be able to get into fights with other cats. Often, fights result in infected abcesses.

8. Reduces the risk of contracting a disease

9. Your cat won't be able to annoy your neighbours.

Truth be told, cats can lead a fulfilled life by remaining indoors or in a cat enclosure where they're safe.

Recently, we had another visit from Tiger the Greyhound. Being an ex racer who's a little bit older, he comes to Dr Paul regularly so we can assess how his legs and joints are going, have a nail clip, a**l glands expressed and an overall health assessment. He has a monthly injection, which helps to manage his arthritic pain also.

He was so nervous for vet visits in the beginning when we first met Tiger. But now he walks into the clinic nice and calm, plops himself onto the scales and enjoys his time with Dr Paul. We think Tiger has figured out that Consults don't need to be a scary thing.

The team loves seeing how far Tiger has come with his confidence. 🩷

We recently had 5th yr vet med student Kate, spend 2 weeks in the clinic to learn and practice her skill-set. She showed great initiative and helped out, always with a smile. Another great vet in the making.

This week, we have a return final year vet med student named Jiyoung from the University of Adelaide with us. She's been assisting Dr Paul with surgery and brushing up on her learnt skillset. She shows initiative with a kind disposition, and she will surely go on after graduating to become another great vet within the industry.

Louie, who's a Wheaten Terrier, came to the clinic today for his annual vaccination and health check with Dr Paul. Louie was a little nervous but overall a good boy and a pleasant experience.

There will be plenty of waterlogged animals around the place today, and birds that get too wet will be unable to fly and are prone to hypothermia. Many of this summers babies will never have seen rain before and won't know how to protect themselves from getting too wet, leading to them to be stuck on roads or unable to get away from predators.

Please keep an eye out for them. If a waterlogged bird is found and requires some help, place the bird on a towel and in a box or pet carrier and seek veterinary or wildlife rescue help.

A bunch of British shorthaired kittens came to the clinic this week for desexing by Dr Paul. Such a cute breed, so many cuddles were had.

Who can guess what this is. Hint, it was surgically removed from a male cat. 🤔
