At Birtwick Basset Hounds, we don’t just breed Bassets—we’re dedicated to preserving everything that makes this breed so special: their lovable nature, sound structure, and outstanding health. Our journey started with one very special dog—Matilda.
Birtwick was established in 2017, built on years of research and planning. When Matilda joined our family, we quickly fell in love. Whether it’s her comical expressions, dramatic sighs, or the way she flops onto the couch after a five-minute zoomie, she fills our lives with joy. But beyond the laughs, Basset Hounds are the ultimate laid-back companions. Birtwick Basset Hounds will be expected our first litter in late this year.
💚 Health Comes First – Every dog in our breeding program undergoes comprehensive health testing for key Basset Hound conditions, including Lafora, POAG, Severe Autoimmune Syndrome, and Thrombocytopaenia. We only breed from clear/negative animals, ensuring puppies have the best chance at long, healthy lives. Each litter is meticulously planned to improve health, longevity, and temperament.
🏆 Conformation & Breed Integrity – We are committed to preserving the classic Basset Hound look, breeding to the ANKC breed standard for correct structure, movement, and type.
🐾 Raised in Our Home – No kennels here! Our puppies will be raised inside our home, handled daily, and introduced to a variety of sights, sounds, and experiences to ensure they grow into well-adjusted companions.
