I’m reaching out on behalf of the All Cats Matter Inc, an Australian community of cat lovers who care for both rescue and pedigree cats. Alongside celebrating our feline friends, we step in during natural disasters to help cats and their families when they need it most.

When floods, fires, or storms hit, cats can be especially vulnerable. Our club helps by:

Organising foster care and safe places for displaced cats

Providing food, litter, and essential supplies

Covering emergency vet care

Supporting both rescue cats and much-loved pedigree pets caught up in the crisis

To keep doing this, we rely on the generosity of people and organisations like yours. We’re looking for sponsors and supporters who can help us be ready when the next disaster strikes.

You can support us by:

Making a donation to fund supplies and vet bills

Sponsoring our emergency response kits or foster care program

Donating goods like food, litter, carriers, or bedding to one of the many rescue groups we aim to support all around Australia.

In return, we’ll happily recognise your support through our events, newsletters, and social media – and, of course, you’ll know you’ve helped keep cats safe when they need it most.

If this sounds like something you’d like to be part of, I’d love to chat about how we can work together. Feel free to inbox us for more information.

Thanks so much for considering us – every bit of help makes a real difference.
Feel free to share with your friends and felines.

Have you ever wondered why cats hiss? Or how old are they when they learn to hiss?
Cats hiss as a warning signal. It’s their way of saying “Back off, I feel threatened.” Think of it like a snake’s hiss — it’s meant to intimidate without needing to fight.

Here are the main reasons cats hiss:

Fear or threat – A cat will hiss if it feels cornered, startled, or senses danger.

Defensiveness – If another animal or person gets too close, a hiss is often a first line of defense before scratching or biting.

Territorial behavior – Cats may hiss at other cats or animals entering “their” space.

Pain or discomfort – If a cat hisses when touched, it could be injured, sore, or unwell.

Social communication – In multi-cat households, hissing helps set boundaries (“You’re too close” or “Stop bothering me”).

Protective instinct – Mother cats may hiss to keep others away from their kittens.

So, hissing isn’t “meanness” — it’s a natural form of communication to avoid escalation.
Kittens can start hissing very young—as early as 2–3 weeks old.

Here’s how it usually develops:

2–3 weeks: Eyes and ears are opening, and kittens are becoming aware of their surroundings. At this stage, they may hiss instinctively if startled or when something unfamiliar approaches. It’s a natural defense mechanism, even though they’re tiny and not very threatening.

4–6 weeks: As they become more mobile and start interacting with littermates, hissing may appear during rough play or if one kitten gets annoyed.

8 weeks and older: By this age, hissing is more deliberate—used to set boundaries, warn off others, or express fear.

So, hissing is innate, not learned. Even orphaned kittens who never see another cat will hiss if frightened, showing it’s hardwired into their behavior.

I'm feeling quite chuffed this evening after a lovely day at the Siamese Cat Club show.
Our judges today were Emma Kimberley (NZCF), Sharon Hodge (NSW CFA) and Kingsley Schmidtke (GCCFSA ACF)

Summer - Ch Rabeskah Mercury Rising
Received all her challenges and was 9th in Group in Ring 1, 8th in Group in Ring 2, and Best of Breed, 5th in Group and CCCA Entire Female in Ring 3. She also qualified as a Grand Champion today

Cy - Apokalypt Scion of Cybermax (Imp NZ)
What a lovely relaxed little boy on his debut!
In the male under 5mths old class, he received many compliments on his relaxed demeanour and his lovely size and body type. Sharon Hodge placed him Best of Breed and 7th in Group

I'd also like to say how pleased I am to congratulate Kimberley Herewane for Rabeskah JackJack (male kitten under 9mths), who was Best of Breed in Rings 1 & 3, and placed 6th, 9th and 5th in Group in the respective rings.

As always, thank you to the club, judges, sponsors, all workers and fellow exhibitors for a lovely day.

Official photos to come, but I wanted you to see Cy in his very special curtain set, made by Barbara Martland.

Preparing for a kitten? Here's a great guide to help you get organised, and your breeder should also be able to help fine tune the specifics

Are you looking at bringing a kitten into your home, let us help you prepare with our 10 Kitten Must-Haves

Quality Kitten Food – Specially formulated for kittens, with the right nutrients for growth. (Your breeder or rescue will tell you what the kitten is accustomed to eating, do not change this quickly or you will have a kitten with an upset tummy)

Food & Water Bowls – Shallow, easy-to-clean bowls (ceramic or stainless steel are best).

Litter Box & Litter – A low-sided tray for easy access;again try and stick too what your breeder or rescue have been using and if you wish to change do it gradually.

Bedding – A soft, washable bed in a quiet corner to make your kitten feel safe and cozy.

Carrier – A sturdy, comfortable carrier for vet visits and safe travel.

Scratching Post / Pad – To save your furniture and allow natural scratching behavior.

Toys – Wand toys, balls, soft mice, puzzle toys – kittens need play to burn energy and develop coordination.

Grooming Supplies – A gentle brush/comb, kitten-safe nail clippers, and wipes if needed.

Kitten-Safe Space –a playpen area to keep your kitten safe while they adjust.

Healthcare Essentials – Vet appointment scheduled, flea/worm treatments, microchipping, and pet insurance if possible. We use and suggest Felpreva for flea and worming, and Knose Pet Insurance.

✨ Optional but highly recommended:

Cat tree or climbing shelves (kittens love height).

Enzymatic cleaner (for accidents).
Feel free to share with your friends and felines.
