Neuroscientific research from an fMRI study at Emory University has confirmed that dogs love their owners. The study, led by Gregory Berns, found that when a dog smells its owner, the caudate nucleus—the part of the brain associated with joy and affection—becomes significantly more active than when the dog smells food or other dogs.
This groundbreaking research, reported in both National Geographic and Nature Scientific Reports, suggests that a dog's emotional response to its owner's scent is a biological sign of love and bonding. It provides scientific evidence that, to a dog, you are not just a caretaker, but a cherished member of the family.
