Say hello to the newest (and fluffiest) face at Adelaide Zoo!

Born on 29 May to mum Zamba, this baby Black-and-white Colobus monkey is already turning heads with its snowy white coat, a striking contrast to the sleek black and white look of the adults. The black colouring will come in slowly over the next few months, so keep an eye out for the transformation!

With grandma Amanda and aunty Adale lending a hand, this little one is getting the full family treatment

The baby is yet to be named and we’re still waiting to confirm the s*x, but one thing’s for sure it’s already stealing hearts.

In the wild, these striking monkeys are under pressure from habitat loss and hunting so every birth here plays a small part in helping secure their future.

Come and say hello to our growing Colobus crew!

Look Closely… 👀👅

Did you know? Lemurs have a second tongue—called a sublingua—tucked beneath their main one. It acts like a built-in comb, helping them groom their fur with precision. This clever adaptation is usually hidden, so spotting it is a real treat!

Want to get up close with the curious lemur troop? Book a Lemur Encounter at Adelaide Zoo and see natural behaviours like this in action. 🐾🌿

It’s with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Ady, Adelaide Zoo’s beloved Australian Sea Lion.

As one of the oldest Australian Sea Lion in the region at 28 years old, and having well surpassed the average lifespan of her species at 15 in the wild and 20 in human care, Ady’s health has been closely monitored for some time. On Monday, Ady’s dedicated keepers observed signs of discomfort, and our expert veterinary team conducted a thorough health check under anaesthetic which identified significant gastrointestinal and abdominal issues.

Adelaide Zoo’s expert animal management team agreed that it was time to let Ady pass gently. She was euthanised late on Monday afternoon.

Ady will be missed greatly by her keepers, who have enjoyed a beautiful relationship with this playful, cheeky and highly intelligent girl. Her joyful spirit has made her a favourite of Adelaide Zoo staff, volunteers and visitors for many years.

Ady – short for Adelaide – was born at Adelaide Zoo in 1997, and after a few years at Sea World she returned home in 2009 and quickly made her way back into the hearts of many across the zoo community.

There will now be some consideration around future plans for Seal Bay. Adelaide Zoo has long said that it would not introduce new sea lions into the Seal Bay habitat in its current form, and this position has not changed. These discussions will take place in the future but for now, the priority is supporting our people through the loss of one of Adelaide Zoo’s most beloved residents.

This news is very difficult for Ady’s keepers and all those in our zoo community who loved her. It is particularly hard after saying farewell to our male sea lion, Tasko, in March last year.

We ask that you show only kindness and respect for the passing of Ady, and for our keepers, staff and volunteers who are feeling her loss deeply.

It’s been panda-monium in Bamboo Forest this weekend, with Yi Lan putting her climbing skills - and the trees! - to the test 🐼🎋

Giant Pandas are natural climbers, and despite Yi Lan’s tumbles and wobbles she’s perfectly fine, and quite graceful in her own beary special way!

This busy three year old panda is building her strength, confidence, and natural instincts as she reaches new heights exploring her habitat.

Peek-a-boo! 🐒👀

This young Cotton-top Tamarin has been keeping the keepers (and cameras!) on their toes with its cheeky games and boundless energy.

This curious little one was mid-peekaboo when this adorable snap was taken.

A little blurry, but full of fun!

📸 Huge thanks to Nicole Miller for capturing the moment.

Kluet the 29-year-old Sumatran Orangutan, recently had his routine dental check-up thanks to the generous support of Dr Greg Miller and Dr Alex Caraballo from North Adelaide Dental Care and the Australian Dental Foundation. While Kluet’s known for his clever vet-avoidance tactics (blanket burrito anyone?), he calmly cooperated this time even offering his arm for anaesthetic.
It was his fourth dental in four years, and we’re happy with his overall health.
Big thanks to our partners for helping care for one of the Zoo’s cheekiest (and cleverest) characters!

🌏 It starts with us. 💚

This , we asked our team across Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park to share the small, everyday actions they take to care for our planet — and the simple things anyone can do to make a difference.

From bringing reusable containers to work, to planting native species at home or supporting wildlife conservation, their answers are a reminder that every action counts.

It’s a proud moment for Zoos SA — 93 Red-tailed Phascogales, bred at Adelaide Zoo, have been released into Scotia Wildlife Sanctuary for the first time in more than a century. 🐾

These remarkable marsupials were reintroduced to Barkindji Country in south-west NSW, in partnership with Australian Wildlife Conservancy, as part of a broader effort to restore the region’s native wildlife.

Scotia is now home to five reintroduced native species, the Red-tailed Phascogale, Greater Bilby, Numbat, Bridled Nailtail Wallaby and Burrowing Bettong, a fantastic example of what collaboration can achieve in the recovery of Australia’s threatened species.

🎉 Double the celebrations – Happy 11th Birthday to Bo and Una! 🐒🎂

Today we’re sending big birthday wishes to Bo and Una, the cheeky emperor tamarin twins at Adelaide Zoo, as they turn 11! 🎈

With their impressive moustaches and curious personalities, these tiny primates are always a favourite with visitors – and they play a big role in raising awareness for the protection of South America's rainforests, where their wild cousins face ongoing threats from habitat loss and deforestation. 🌿

Pop into the zoo to say hi and help us wish Bo and Una a very happy 11th birthday! 💚
