It's Show Week in Adelaide!

Have we got your attention?

We at Sassy's love the show, but we don't always enjoy the crowds, the noise, the weird smells and the cost! Some people are overwhelmed by these things.

If you have school aged children, they more than likely will have one (or two) days off school this week.
Why not bring them in to Sassy's for a visit?

It's warm, we have yummy cakes and hot drinks and we have ....KITTIES.

Come and spend 30 minutes or an hour in the company of our resident cats and feel yourself relax. It's the perfect way to take the edge off your stressful day.

Good morning Sassy Cat Lovers!

If you've visited Sassy's in the last few months, you may have noticed that some of our cats are missing.....

5 of our kitties have retired!

Rico was a customer favourite. A talky Toyger, Rico was only on loan to us and is now back with his human enjoying his brand new catio!

Meow Meow is enjoying her retirement with a lovely lady who needed a furry companion in her life and is happy being an only cat.

Spud and Peach could be prickly. We know that. These two have been adopted by one of our volunteers and to our amazement, are becoming loving house cats!
It's truly fantastic to see their transformation. Just goes to show that love works wonders ❤❤.

And finally, Trinity. Our 3 legged princess is now living like a queen with another of our volunteers. These two girls were made for each other! Trinity now has ALL the toys for herself and isn't complaining 😁.

We wish all of these kitties a very long and happy retirement. They've earnt it!

Good morning Sassy Cat Lovers!

With Spring only a couple of days away, it might be a good time to remind ourselves of what plants are safe or toxic to cats.

We all love cut flowers, but it's not worth making our furry companions sick (or worse) over a bouquet.

There are plenty of cat-safe alternatives out there and this is by no means a comprehensive list.
If unsure, always check with your vet to be safe.

The Spring weather will be back in a few days, so hang in there!

Due to unforseen circumstances, we will not be open today.
I expect the cats will spend the day snoozing, which begs the question...
WHY DO CATS SLEEP SO MUCH??

Cats are 'crepuscular hunters' who are most active at dawn and dusk, just like their wild cousins. They will take frequent catnaps throughout their day, to conserve energy for 'hunting'. Even if it's just their toys!

What do their different sleep positions mean?

Curling up in a ball protects their internal organs and helps them to conserve their body heat.

Sleeping on their side means that they are totally relaxed and have no need to be alert for danger.

If your cat sleeps exposing their belly, it means that they feel really safe and relaxed, as the belly is the most vulnerable part of their body.

Good morning Sassy Cat Lovers!
Today I want to talk about a more serious, but very important topic.

Not a day goes by at Sassy's that we don't receive a phone call asking us to take cats or kittens. Believe me when I say that if we took on all these felines, we would have over 500 cats!

With kitten season already starting, what should you do if you find a stray cat or if you need to rehome a cat?

Firstly, well done for being a kind and caring human and taking the time to help.

Secondly, you will need to contact a rescue organisation. Did you know that there are several small rescues throughout SA that may be able to help? I have attached a list for your reference.

Thirdly, if you are able to, please consider making a donation to one of these rescues. Most are staffed by volunteers and rely on the public to fund their work.
Do you have time to become a foster carer? These wonderful humans care for cats and kittens at home until they are able to be adopted. Foster carers are ALWAYS in short supply!

Are you looking to add a furry friend to your family? Sassy's is currently an adoption point for Ginger Ninja Rescue. We have helped over 300 cats and kittens find loving homes.

Good morning Sassy Cat Lovers.

You may notice our cats dining out on grass during your visit to Sassy's.

Why do cats eat grass?

Grass is a natural laxative for cats and can help them to remove indigestible materials from their tummies, such as fur.

If you see one of our cats vomitting, it's probably due to furballs or because they've eaten too fast. It's a perfectly natural and healthy thing for them to do.
Just let a staff member know and we will clean it up straight away.

Their red hair!

Ted is the face of Sassy's and it's a title he has rightly earned.
Ted is one of the original cafe cats and one of our most loved. He is the most chilled out guy and is usually sporting a snazzy tie or bandana.
Ted is ALWAYS up for a cuddle and once you gaze into those green eyes, you'll be smitten!

Happy Sunday Sassy Cat People!
Today we introduce our two floofiest kitties.

Winston is a ragdoll, a breed developed in America in the 1960s and known for their docile and placid temperament.

Petunia is our Himalayan; a breed created by crossing a Persian with a Siamese, giving them those beautiful blue eyes.
Petunia is due for a haircut soon! She's not a fan of being brushed, so this ensures her comfort during warmer months.
I have included a photo of Petunia after her last shave. She's actually really tiny under all that fur!

Michael Jackson famously sang 'it don't matter if you're black or white'.
But what if you could be both?
Just like our bi-colour kitties.

Dream and Hope are like the Mona Lisa. Beautiful to look at, but you can't touch! These girls are timid little munchkins, but may approach you for treats...on their terms.

Darling Grandma is, well ROUND. She always has been, but she loves Hope and Dream dearly and the three of them can often be seen curling up for a nap together.

Remus is not technically black and white, but is deserving of a mention here. This handsome boy will come down from his perch if food is involved (like most cats) and is not against having his ears scratched if the mood hits him 🤣

Grey is the colour of storm clouds, doves, silver linings and....
Tiffany!
Tiffany is half Persian and half Scottish Fold (the ears give it away). Although she always looks like a storm cloud, she's a really sweet ball of floof.
Aslan is our Exotic Shorthair and a customer favourite! With his little moustache and squeaky meow, he will chat happily with you as you walk around the cat room.
Mouse and Mimi are our youngest ladies with the prettiest coats. Mimi has become a professional lap sitter and always has time for a cuddle.
Lastly, our dear Zena the senior. Zena is our eldest kitty and hence she sleeps a bit more than the others, but if you catch her awake, she will snuggle up on your lap for the afternoon 🤣.

White cats are something special aren't they?
White cats are always best suited to indoor living, as their pale skin is prone to skin cancer. They can also be born deaf, due to a combination of recessive genes.

Marvel is one of these cats, but what he lacks in hearing, he makes up for with inquisitiveness!
Marvel likes to supervise the morning cleaning, particularly the Changing Of The Litter and has a thing for coffee cups! He has been known to pull empty cups out of the rubbish bin to play with them 🤣

Charlotte is our Chinchilla, a breed of Persion known for their stunning eyes.
Charlotte is a real princess and her favourite spot is in a comfy bed next to the window, where she can keep an eye on her kingdom!
