‼️Beware as this post does contain confrontational photos including blood‼️

As some of you may remember from a previous post, Miss Poppy had an episode of gut stasis about 2 weeks ago.

She was taken straight to UPV and underwent treatment and a few nights hospital stay.

We finally took our girl home after her little stay in hospital, this is when we noticed she wasn’t her usual self.

Not eating much and was also showing some symptoms of EC (to which she’s had previously)

One night whilst I was giving her medication, I noticed she developed a significant lump under her jaw area.

Yet again we found ourselves back at UPV.

Poppy was taken straight to the back and upon investigation, she had developed a VERY significant abscess. (this grew quickly as she was only there a few days prior)

The team gave Poppy Lidocaine and lanced the abscess and what came out was next level! The vets were astonished to say the least.

Poppy was anaemic, dehydrated and had lost weight her

Her PCV was 13

Keep in mind we were due to go overseas not long after this all happened.

We had to make the decision and leave Poppy at the vets, for the duration of our trip as she was clearly a very sick bunny, who required way more specialised care.

We paid $700 and said our possible last goodbyes.

During our time away she was being an incredibly resilient lady.

She however did have a few episodes where, she would be taken off fluids and have to go back on due to dehydration.

She also had periods where she gained weight then dropped again.

We got a culture done from the abscess and it came back, that she had a Pseudomonas infection. (which can be quite a nasty bacteria)

We then had to wait a few days, to see which new antibiotic she could go on.

Poppy will also require a CT scan (roughly $600) to try and get to the bottom of this entire ordeal and find out where this abscess developed from.

We will finally be reunited with Poppy and her husbun Whisky tomorrow.

Who has been with her at the vets whilst we’ve been away.

Even though he was naughty and stole Poppy’s food, and had to have the baby gate put up…

I’ve added a Gofund me to this post as so far my vet bill is $4,747.75 and still growing with needing a CT scan.

I know times are tough all round and I don’t expect anything, but if possible I would be very grateful. 🥹❤️

I will hopefully be able to update this post with way more information, when we collect the kiddies tomorrow. and when we get the CT scan done possibly more again.

Thank you to UPV - Prospect for looking after my girl so well and communicating with me the entire time I was overseas.

As you can all imagine it was pretty difficult that I couldn’t be there for her, but I knew she was in the best possible hands. ❤️

What a crazy few days we’ve had… 🫣

As some of you know we’ve had a few ongoing issues with Honey.

We’ve been seeing Dr Louise for some time now, in regards to Honeys eye issues. (tear duct related)

She had a CT scan done to see if that showed where the issue was, but NOPE it showed a tooth issue…long story short in January we got her front incisor extracted.

All was going relatively well we still had a few little tear duct issue, but nothing crazy she has been on antibiotics ever since.

Cut to the other night when I was doing her usual night medicine routine, this is when I found a lump.

Booked her in to see the vets the next morning, and of course it was an abscess.

The next day she had surgery which included dental float, extraction & abscess surgery.

She also underwent contrast X-rays for her tear duct.

Not even 24hrs after getting Honey home, Poppy decided she wasn’t feeling all the love, so decided an episode of gut stasis would be a great idea on a Sunday morning.

Before we even got Poppy to the vet her husbun Whisky, knew she wasn’t feeling well.

He wouldn’t let me even go near her to assess her without growling at me. Which is very unlike him he even was laying on top of her at one point.

Poppy also showed very minimal signs of EC symptoms, whilst being in hospital.

We are going to keep a very close eye on it.

She has been treated for it previously.

Each of the girls spent a few days in hospital with their husbuns.

We’re very lucky their partners are allowed to stay with them, and help them feel safe and secure whilst they recover.

So thankful they are hopefully (touch wood) on the road to recovery, and no more emergency visits for a little while.

A massive shoutout to the entire team at Unusual Pet Vets ❤️

Dr Louise, Dr Jing, Dr Marijke and all the lovely vet nurses, thank you for always taking such great care of the buns. 🐰
