Two leopard geckos hatched today. Six more eggs still in there.

The incubator is a converted wine cooler. Works well so far.

Shirozakura.

The one hatchling from a clutch of eight — a Snow Scaleless where a Butter Toffee Tessera pairing was planned. Still the only one of its kind here.

Fresh out of a shed in these photos, ate again the next day, and the color keeps settling in a little further every month.

Three females, three different looks. I could use your eyes on this.

All three came home with me from Ziva Exotika in Prague, on different visits, and every time for the same reason: I liked the look of the animal. What didn't come home with them was reliable genetics.

What I think I'm seeing:

1 — orange, irregular pale patches over the back, spotted tail.
2 — pale yellow, no body pattern, only faint markings left on the tail.
3 — pattern intact: brown blotches on the head, spots down the back, banded tail.

What all three share: not a trace of black. Every marking is brown and the eyes are light. That reads albino to me, on all three.

What I can't tell by looking, and neither can anyone else: which albino line. Tremper, Bell and Rainwater don't combine — pair two of them and the offspring come out looking normal and carry it hidden. That's what I want straight before I plan the next pairing.

Kaede.

Bloodred, Masque, 50 % poss. het Anery, 50 % poss. het Hypo, hatched late June. All thirteen eggs from that clutch hatched. This one I'm following for a while.

Every hatchling here lives on its own, 39 tubs at the moment, and all of them are available except Kaede. A soil and coco mix, cork, moss, isopods. That's my way of doing it: bioactive and close to natural from the start, not only once they move into a terrarium.

More space, less work. I feed in the tub without moving the animal, and every shed and every meal belongs to one animal. Housed together, none of that can be traced back to a single one.

All of it goes into DragonSphere on my phone. 39 animals, every feeding, every shed, every weight.

Haiiro, der Graue. Anery, Motley, Scaleless, het Amel, gut ein Jahr alt. Er ist keine eigene Nachzucht — ich habe ihn als Jungtier aufgenommen und ziehe ihn für ein späteres Zuchtprojekt selbst groß.

Scaleless heißt nicht n***t: Die Bauchschuppen sind vorhanden, der Rest ist blanke Haut. Beim Häuten sieht man das besonders gut, dann liegt neben ihm ein Hemd, das fast nur aus dieser dünnen Schicht besteht.

Sein Terrarium ist bepflanzt, mit Erde, Kork und Moos. Unter der Rinde sitzt die Bodenpolizei: Armadillidium granulatum. Die Asseln fressen Kot, Futterreste und abgestreifte Haut und halten den Boden damit stabil, statt dass ich ihn alle paar Wochen komplett tausche.

Frisch aus der Haut.

Amel, Motley, het Anery. So kräftig wie kurz nach der Häutung ist die Farbe sonst nie. Die Tage davor sieht es umgekehrt aus: stumpf, milchige Augen, das Tier zieht sich zurück und frisst meist nicht. Dann streift es die alte Haut in einem Stück ab — und darunter kommt das hier heraus.

Das abgestreifte Hemd liegt daneben.

Dieses Tier war schon einmal hier, als Nummer 2 in der Farbvielfalt-Reihe. Was damals in der Bildunterschrift stand, ist aber nur die halbe Geschichte.

Anery, Motley, het Amel oder Ultra Hypo, 50 % poss. het Hypo.

Das „oder" steht da, weil es sich nicht auflösen lässt. Ein Elterntier ist Anery und trägt het Amel, das andere ist ein Ultramel Anery. Beide Anlagen sitzen am selben Genort — welche der beiden das Jungtier bekommen hat, sieht man ihm nicht an. Zeigen würde sich das erst über eigenen Nachwuchs.

Ich trage solche offenen Stellen genau so ein, wie sie sind. Ein Tier, bei dem ich rate, taugt für eine Zucht nichts.

Honeymoon und Haruto. Die beiden sind füreinander vorgesehen, Nachwuchs gab es bisher keinen.

0.1 Butter, Motley, Tessera
1.0 Auratum, Motley/Striped, Tessera, het Caramel

Bevor so eine Verpaarung stattfindet, rechne ich durch, was dabei herauskommen kann. Bei diesen beiden sind 24 Kombinationen möglich — und die häufigste davon liegt bei 6,3 %.

Neben den Kornnattern halte ich auch Leopardgeckos. Diese vier sind eigene Nachzuchten aus dem letzten Jahr, inzwischen subadult und alle vier weiblich.

Wildfarben, ohne Farbzucht dahinter. Zwei von ihnen sind am selben Tag geschlüpft.

Der Schwanz von Nummer 2 ist ein Regenerat. Den ursprünglichen hat sie direkt nach dem Schlupf noch im Brutkasten verloren.
