Bad signs of a male pig that cannot be used for production.
Here are some bad signs that show a male pig (boar) may not be good for breeding or production:
1. Small or poorly developed testicles
Small, uneven, or damaged testicles can mean low fertility.
2. Weak body structure
Weak legs, bent legs, or difficulty walking can affect mating ability.
3. Poor growth rate
A boar that grows slowly despite good feeding may pass poor genetics to piglets.
4. Low sexual interest
A healthy boar should show strong interest in sows on heat. Lack of libido is a bad sign.
5. Very aggressive or extremely dull behavior
Overly aggressive boars are dangerous, while very weak or dull boars may have health problems.
6. Frequent sickness
Repeated illness can affect fertility and spread disease in the farm.
7. Poor appetite
A breeding boar should eat well and maintain good body condition.
8. Visible deformities
Crooked mouth, hunchback, swollen joints, hernia, or abnormal body shape are warning signs.
9. Breathing problems or constant coughing
This may indicate chronic disease that can reduce performance.
10. Poor semen quality
Watery semen, very low semen volume, or infertility problems are major signs of a poor breeder.
11. Too much fat or extreme thinness
Overfat boars become lazy during mating, while very thin boars may lack strength and fertility.
12. History of producing weak piglets
If previous offspring are weak, slow-growing, or unhealthy, the boar may have poor genetics.
A good breeding boar should be:
active,
strong,
healthy,
well-built,
fertile,
and from good bloodlines.
