While doing a midnight check-up, Dr. Coetzee suddenly realised — CARE is turning 7! 🎉

In just a few days, we’ll be celebrating seven wonderful years as CARE. But our story actually began much earlier. We’ve been operating since 2001, originally known as Klapmuts Bird Clinic — founded and run by Dr. Deon de Beer, father of Dr. Coetzee de Beer.

What began as a dedicated bird practice has since grown into a fully equipped avian and exotic animal clinic, with state-of-the-art technology that’s unmatched in the field.

We are incredibly proud of our passionate team and want to take this moment to celebrate all the animals we’ve had the privilege to help over the years. Here’s to the next chapter — because in the end, quality always prevails.

Attention Rabbit Owners

We’ve secured a deposit for 80 doses of the RHDV2 vaccine! This time, the process will be a little different. Instead of individual vials, the doses will come in 40-dose vials. Here’s the catch: once a vial is opened, it must be used within 7 days.

To avoid waste, we’ll need your help. Our plan is to schedule 40 vaccinations within a week to fully utilize each vial before moving to the next one.

At CARE, we do not recommend leg bands for parrots. This outdated identification method can cause discomfort and even serious injuries. Leg bands can constrict as the bird grows, potentially leading to circulation problems, severe pain, and, in extreme cases, loss of toes or feet. Additionally, they may catch on cages or toys, increasing the risk of injury. Instead, we recommend microchipping as a safer, permanent form of identification that minimizes these risks and prioritizes the parrot’s well-being.

This is a leg band, and you can see dead cells accumulating within the ring.
