Is your adorable puppy suddenly a tiny land shark with needle-sharp teeth? 😅
This intense biting is a completely normal phase driven by the discomfort of their adult teeth emerging and their natural instinct to explore the world with their mouths. The goal is not to punish this behaviour, but to compassionately manage and channel their chewing instinct away from your hands and furniture and onto much better options.
Your most powerful tool is consistent redirection. The moment you feel those sharp teeth, give a firm "ouch!," withdraw your hand, and immediately offer an appropriate chew toy. Stock your home with a variety of puppy-safe toys, like durable rubber chews or even a frozen washcloth to provide cooling relief for their sore gums. When they choose the toy over you, shower them with praise. This patiently teaches them the most important rule: toys are for chewing, people are not. With consistency, this phase will pass, leaving you with a wonderful companion and your fingers intact!
