Handsome Romeo and dazzling older lady, Cupid, have a very close knit bond. He is much her junior whilst she is a retired breeding bird having produced 24 chicks in 12 years, leaving her frail and exhausted, mineral depleted. Her eyesight is almost non existent and by disign their aviary is large enough to fly short distances, it had to be kept to a size which Cupid could navigate.
She plays, baths, explores but come night time climbs on to their perch when Romeo protects and cuddles her

❤️🐦. We once again wax lyrical about the scientifically formulated feed for your feathered and furry furry friends. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNWAVERING SUPPORT 🙏❤️🐦
This small excerpt is NY no means exhaustive and we recommend you visit their website www.aviproducts.co.za
*Not many people know that the acronym AVI hails back to a time when our name stood for the first three letters of “Avian,” as bird feed was initially our primary production.
Today, our extensive specialist bird food range continues to uphold a legacy of avian excellence. Each product is scientifically formulated to meet the unique dietary needs of the birds it was designed for – from canaries to cockatiels, parrots to racing pigeons, macaws to mynahs, flamingos to finches, to pheasants, in fact, virtually all birds of a feather.

You can’t always see it… But they feel it.
In this photo, Taco might seem near picture-perfect. But without wellness exams and observation, we may not have known about his heart murmur, extreme obesity, and old fracture issues that could quietly continue beneath the surface. Amazon parrots are stoic and emotionally complex. They often hide pain until it becomes urgent. That’s why prevention is everything.
Meet Taco, a beautiful OWA parrot who, like many of his species, “looks” vibrant on the outside. But here’s the truth: Parrots, especially Amazons, are incredibly skilled at hiding health problems.
You can’t always tell by looking if a parrot is:
Overweight (Amazons are especially prone to obesity, which affects their heart, liver, and joints)
Dealing with early pododermatitis—painful inflammation of the feet from poor perching or inactivity
Hiding respiratory issues (Amazons can develop chronic sinus or air sac infections)
Heart issues
Masking malnutrition—even with shiny feathers

Amazon parrots are stoic and emotionally complex. They often hide pain until it becomes urgent. That’s why prevention is everything.
For all Amazon caretakers:
* Schedule routine avian vet visits (even for “healthy” birds) well ahead of time, going out as far as they will let you (2 years in advance)
* Monitor weight with a gram scale—Amazon's gain weight easily (don’t lose weight easily)!
* Provide a diet rich in fresh veggies, low in fat, and appropriate for their species
* Encourage exercise—flight, foraging, and climbing
* Use natural wood perches to protect their feet
Let’s stop relying on appearances. Health isn't just about being talkative, having all their feathers, or “being nice”; it's about what we can’t see until we go to a professional. At Papayago Rescue, we vet every bird as part of meeting every bird where they are. We need that information to determine how we can help.

Fallen Angels Bird Sanctuary & Rescue Facility, NPO 202-562, is a centre for abused, unwanted and abandoned birds of all species, ages, sizes. Indigenous or wild birds are hand reared and released appropriately into their natural habitat, if possible. Injured birds unable to fend for themselves remain free roaming within the sanctuary. Parrots reside with us permanently, they are not bred, sold or adopted out. Their feeding, housing, medical needs are attended to.
We request public assistance on occasions when there is a desperate need for additional funds for a rescue bird, transport of newcomers or materials needed for the sanctuary. Our birds are free flighted in protected environments. The facility is not a bird park, nor a bird zoo. The birds for the most part are traumatized on arrival and rehabilitation can take months on a one on one basis to regain the trust.
The sanctuary is subsidized by the making and selling of original non-toxic life enrichment toys for birds, rabbits, chinchillas, monkeys, guinea pigs, etc. All proceeds from the sale of these toys go to the sanctuary.
