PLEASE DO NOT GIVE YOUR ANIMALS AWAY!
We're seeing an ALARMING SURGE of people giving their animals away to strangers, and networking them on social media 'free to a good home'. IT IS NOT SAFE. Let us repeat that again: IT IS NOT SAFE.
Unfortunately, people are not always who and what they seem, and between fickle adopters who dump animals on the side of the road at the first sign of adversity, or worse - dog resale, and dog fighting syndicates - the DANGERS ARE REAL. We see people give their animals away to gardeners or domestic helpers, who in the SA context, often struggle to support their own families, let alone the arrival of a new dog. Too often they end up on a chain in the township where the world is VERY DIFFERENT. Many will die from biliary in the first few weeks or months.
We are asking the South African public to engage constructively with people on this issue when you see posts on social media, or you encounter a friend, family member, or colleague who is looking to give their pets away. Anger and aggression simply compromises the animal in question - so please try and educate and inform.
Some animal rescue / welfare organisations (despite their own pressure) are prepared to guide and advise to ensure a responsible rehoming process. Please contact your local rescue organisations and shelters FIRST to find out if that is possible. Alternatively, the BarkingMad SA team have taken the initiative of offering a service to ensure SAFE & RESPONSIBLE REHOMING.
We include the link as follows:

If you do not come right, consider these 2 options:
1. The dignity of euthanasia so they never end up in a horror story.
2. TAKE THEM TO THE SPCA.
When you spend time in animal welfare, and you see the various horrors out there, you will understand that surrender to an SPCA has its place. They have the infrastructure at centres all around the country to offer safe haven.
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING RESPONSIBLE REHOMING IN SA.
