Whale Eyes!

A subtle and often missed or overlooked sign your dog is giving you. What does it mean?

Whale eyes in dogs refer to when they show the whites of their eyes, usually while keeping their head pointed in a different direction. It's like they're giving you the "side eye". It's a sign that something's bothering them. This behavior is often accompanied by other signs of discomfort, like pinned ears, a low tail, and a tense mouth.

Dogs exhibit whale eyes when they're feeling anxious, stressed, fearful, or uncomfortable. This could be due to:
1. Unfamiliar environments or people: Dogs may feel overwhelmed by new surroundings or individuals.
2. Pain or discomfort: Physical pain or discomfort can cause dogs to display whale eyes.
3. Resource guarding: Dogs may show whale eyes when guarding food, toys, or other valuable resources.
4.Fear or anxiety: Loud noises, sudden movements, or past traumas can trigger whale eyes.
5. Appeasement behavior: Dogs may exhibit whale eyes when they're are feeling uncomfortable and try to appease their owners.

It's important to recognize whale eyes and respond appropriately to avoid escalating the situation. If you notice your dog displaying whale eyes, give them space and try to identify the trigger.
