COLOURS IN GOLDEN RETRIEVERS

Many people think, and many breeders advertise the various colour ranges of Golden Retrievers incorrectly.

Golden Retrievers come in different shades of gold — but they are all the same breed.

The recognized colour range includes:
🤍 Cream
💛 Light Golden
🧡 Medium Golden
🤎 Dark Golden

There is no separate breed or variety known as a “White Golden Retriever” or a “Red Golden Retriever.” Cream dogs are simply the lightest shade of gold, while darker dogs are still Golden Retrievers within the normal colour spectrum.

Coat colour inheritance is also far more complex than simply breeding two dogs of a similar shade.

Two light-coloured Golden Retrievers can produce darker puppies, depending on the colours carried through their pedigrees and previous generations. In the same way, two darker Golden Retrievers may produce lighter puppies.

The shade of the puppies cannot be predicted with certainty before they are born, and there is currently no reliable DNA colour test available that can accurately determine the exact shade of Golden Retriever puppies.

Colour should never be the main reason for choosing or breeding a Golden Retriever. Health, temperament, structure, breed type and responsible breeding should always come first.

Some breeders even register their puppies with KUSA with the incorrect colours. Below are various colours that breeders register litters. When you get your pedigree and see the colour is incorrect, please ask your breeder to amend.

Today, 29 July 2026, is one of the saddest days of my life.

Today I had to say goodbye to a legend... Nougar (Mochavulin Alberta's Finest), who peacefully left us at the incredible age of 15 years and 4 months.

Very few people are fortunate enough to remain part of a dog's life from the day they are born until the day they take their final breath. Through the kindness and friendship of his incredible dad, Chris Charlton, I was blessed to do exactly that.

Chris allowed me to share every chapter of Nougar's life. I had the privilege of showing him, watching him grow from a beautiful puppy into the gentle old soul that everyone loved, and seeing him regularly throughout his remarkable fifteen years.

Today, Chris gave me one final gift—the opportunity to say goodbye.

I got to feed Nougar treats one last time, hold him in my arms, kiss his beautiful face, and whisper in his ear that he was the most amazing boy... that he was deeply loved, and that he will continue to be loved for as long as my heart keeps beating.

I walked away with a heart that feels completely broken.

I have hundreds of photographs of Nougar, and every single one is a favourite because each captures a different memory, a different moment, and a different reason why he was so special. No words could ever truly explain what this beautiful Golden Retriever meant to me.

Nougar was the final puppy from my beloved Tina's last litter—a living piece of her legacy. Looking back over the years, I realise how many wonderful memories we created together. Those moments will never fade; they are forever etched into my heart.

Sleep peacefully now, my gentle old man.

Run free over the Rainbow Bridge. Find your beautiful mom, Tina, and all the other dogs who have gone before you. Chase the butterflies, swim in crystal-clear streams, and bask in the sunshine without pain or age slowing you down.

Give them all a big, sloppy Golden Retriever kiss from me, and tell them they are loved beyond measure and missed every single day.

Until we meet again, my precious boy...

Thank you for fifteen and a half unforgettable years.

🌷MOCHAVULIN SPRING PLEUVOIR 🌷

16 September 2014 to 27 July 2026

Today, I lot of sadness as we lost another Mochavulin pupper - at 12 yrs old. Morgan-Jade was much loved by her mom, and she was a qualified therapy dog, that brought so much joy to so many people, over so many years. Throughout the years we always kept in touch, and I was privileged enough to see her a few times and to share in all her adventures with her owners.

Rest in Peace Morgan-Jade .....and give daddy Max and mommy Pixie a big sloppy kiss up in heaven.
