Discover common bird diseases, symptoms, and prevention tips to keep your pet bird healthy. Early detection can save their life.
Feather plucking isn’t a “bad bird” problem, it’s a communication problem. Birds pluck for many reasons such as: medical issues, boredom, stress, changes in their environment, nutritional deficiencies or even grief. Sometimes it’s a combination of things.
But, almost always, it's something you can think of as their way of saying, “Something’s not quite right, please help me.” 💔
Caring properly for your parrot includes regular vet visits, enrichment, consistent routine, social time, (especially with their favorite human), enough sleep and a safe environment. If your bird has started plucking a quick checkup to make sure they are healthy is always a great idea. Then, you can look into the other things above to see if you need to improve or modify anything.
With the right care, many birds can improve and even stop plucking. But even with the very best care, some birds will never get their feathers back, no matter if they've stopped plucking or not due to follicle damage. And, even if their feathers never grow back, they’re still just as amazing, loving, and worthy of a forever home. ❤️
If you have a bird that you are not able to properly care for, whether it's plucking or not, please do not shut them away (or worse). Work with us, or another rescue near you to help find another arrangement for them.
Remember, there is no shame in surrendering a bird because you are doing what's best for both of you. So many times we've seen beautiful parrots who've come from unideal situations, that could have been prevented with a simple process. 🦜

I’m seeing a definite uptick in bird entanglement cases these last couple of weeks ☹️
As we enter Spring and move into Summer, more people out on the water will mean a substantial increase in discarded line and tackle.
Please spare a thought for the wildlife around our waterways and clear up any discarded line you spot, yours or not. Animals suffer severe pain and trauma from these entanglements, losing toes and feet, and in some cases their lives.
We may not be able to eradicate the problem but there is no reason we can’t reduce it dramatically with a bit of thought and care. Please take the time. 🙏❤️

Parrots on the edge .. 😓🦜
The Blue-backed parrot in the Philippines may have fewer than 250 left in the wild. They survive on just three islands — their forests vanishing, their nests raided for the illegal pet trade.
The Great Green macaw of Central and South America faces the same fate. Their old-growth forests are fragmented, leaving pairs isolated and vulnerable.
Parrots aren’t just beautiful — they are seed carriers, tree planters, rainforest architects.
When they disappear, entire ecosystems unravel.

Fallen Angels Bird Sanctuary & Rescue Facility, NPO 202-562, is a centre for abused, unwanted and abandoned birds of all species, ages, sizes. Indigenous or wild birds are hand reared and released appropriately into their natural habitat, if possible. Injured birds unable to fend for themselves remain free roaming within the sanctuary. Parrots reside with us permanently, they are not bred, sold or adopted out. Their feeding, housing, medical needs are attended to.
We request public assistance on occasions when there is a desperate need for additional funds for a rescue bird, transport of newcomers or materials needed for the sanctuary. Our birds are free flighted in protected environments. The facility is not a bird park, nor a bird zoo. The birds for the most part are traumatized on arrival and rehabilitation can take months on a one on one basis to regain the trust.
The sanctuary is subsidized by the making and selling of original non-toxic life enrichment toys for birds, rabbits, chinchillas, monkeys, guinea pigs, etc. All proceeds from the sale of these toys go to the sanctuary.
