🐴 Learning the Art of Horse Clipping ✂️
Before our students ever pick up the clippers, they first learn the importance of planning.
Using chalk, they carefully mark out the different clipping patterns on the horse. This helps them understand where each clip should go and why different horses require different types of clips. It's a hands-on way of learning that builds confidence and develops good horsemanship.
Why do we clip horses?
During winter or when horses are in regular work, they can grow thick coats that cause them to sweat heavily during exercise. A clipped coat helps them: 🐎 Cool down more quickly after work. 🐎 Dry faster, reducing the risk of catching a chill. 🐎 Stay comfortable while remaining in regular training. 🐎 Make grooming easier and keep the coat cleaner.
However, every horse is different, which is why we teach our students about the various clipping styles.
✂️ Trace Clip
The trace clip removes hair from the underside of the neck, chest, belly, and part of the sides where horses sweat the most. It is ideal for horses in light to moderate work, leaving plenty of their natural coat for warmth.
✂️ Blanket Clip
The blanket clip removes more hair from the neck, shoulders, and underside while leaving a "blanket" of hair over the back and hindquarters. This is a great option for horses in moderate to hard work, helping them stay cool while protecting their back and kidneys from the cold.
At Die Stal Ministry we believe that great horsemen and horsewomen don't just learn how to do something—they learn why they do it. We're proud of our students as they gain practical skills, knowledge, and confidence through every lesson.
