๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿพ MANDELA DAY STERILISATION CAMPAIGN โ€“ GAMALAKHE ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

Not even the rain could stop us! On Saturday, 19th July, the Lower South Coast SPCA carried out a heartwarming Mandela Day Sterilisation Campaign โ€” sterilising 58 dogs and 4 cats from Gamalakhe and surrounding areas, along with vital Rabies vaccinations to protect both pets and people.

Our Inspectorate team braved the wet weather, spending hours collecting animals from homes and informal settlements, ensuring they were brought to safety, treated with care, and returned home sterilised and vaccinated.

This incredible day was made possible by the unwavering dedication of our two committed LSC SPCA vets, our hardworking staff, and a phenomenal team of volunteer vets and support staff who gave their time and skills to create a lasting impact. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

Gamalakhe is one of the largest communities we serve, where we routinely conduct Proactive and Hawking Inspections, house-to-house visits, community education, veterinary assistance, and rescue operations.

Together, rain or shine, we build a kinder future โ€” one animal at a time.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Pretty much sums up the absolutely incredible donation that we received from Beekman Group !

Over 4 tonnes of dog/cat food, treats, tin food, bedding, blankets and a dog kennel was handed over to the LSC SPCA this past Friday by an awesome group of Beekman employees.

This donation could not have come at a better time with our food stock at a low, and there are just not enough words to convey out utmost appreciation for this unbelievable donation for the Animals in our care.

We would also like to express our gratitude to Marta from South Coast Costume Hire for the use of the dog suit for this drive.

Look out for Domino our new mascot in the near future ๐Ÿ˜

โ„ COLD WEATHER WARNING โ„
We ask again to please take heed of the below advice to keep your animals warm and safe with the impending extreme cold weather.

Animals feel cold just as much as humans do.

๐Ÿพ Consider getting a jersey to help keep them warm.
๐Ÿพ Always ensure your animals have a dry, warm safe space to shelter in.
๐Ÿพ Clean, warm and dry bedding and if possible, an extra blanket or two.
๐Ÿพ If pets cannot come indoors, you should make sure they are protected by a dry, draft-free enclosure large enough to allow them to sit and lie down, but small enough to hold in the petโ€™s body heat. Raise the floor a few inches off the ground i.e. a rubber mat, pallet. Turn the enclosure away from the wind and cover the doorway.
๐Ÿพ Move other animals or livestock to sheltered areas in a draft free enclosure as above and make sure they have access to drinking water.
๐Ÿพ Use heaters with caution. The heater can burn your pet or be knocked over, possibly starting a home fire.
๐Ÿพ Watch for hypothermia. If your pet is whining, shivering, anxious, slower than usual or stops moving, seems weak or starts looking for warm places to burrow, get them inside quickly as they may be showing signs of hypothermia.
If you suspect your pet has hypothermia, consult your Veterinarian immediately.

For any Animal related Emergency, contact the SPCA standby line on 0832226355.

This coming weekend marks Qurbani - a time observed by many in our community through the religious practice of animal sacrifice during Eid al-Adha.

Our Inspectorate Team and staff will be stationed at sites across our area of operation over the next few days from sunrise to sunset to monitor the handling and slaughter of animals, ensuring all actions are carried out in accordance with the Animals Protection Act No 71 of 1962 and with the highest regard for Animal Welfare.

We wish our Muslim supporters a joyful Eid Mubarak.

For any Animal related Emergency, please contact 083 222 6355.

We thank you for your patience and support during this time.
