Do you know the signs of pain in your dog?

Dogs can’t tell us when they hurt, and many will quietly “push through” discomfort. Often the first signs are small changes in behaviour—easy to miss until the problem gets worse.

Watch for:
• Slowing down on walks, limping, stiffness, or trouble getting up
• Reluctance to jump into the car, on the couch, or go up/down stairs
• Hiding away, being less playful, or suddenly clingy or withdrawn
• Growling, flinching, or snapping when touched in certain areas
• Panting more, restlessness, pacing, or trouble settling
• Changes in appetite or chewing, drooling, or dropping food
• Any change in toileting habits—straining, accidents, or crying when urinating or defecating

These subtle changes can be your dog’s way of saying, “I’m not feeling right.”
If you’re unsure, it’s always worth a check.

Contact Randparkridge Veterinary Hospital, Synergy Pet Health and Rehabilitation on 011 678 7526 to schedule an appointment and get your dog checked.

Do you know the signs of pain in your cat? 😿

Cats are experts at hiding discomfort. Often the first signs are tiny changes in their routine—easy to miss until things get worse.

Watch for:
• Jumping less, moving more slowly, or seeming stiff (especially after resting)
• Hiding more, being less social, or getting irritable when touched
• Grooming changes—over-grooming one spot or grooming less overall
• Eating changes—reduced appetite, fussiness, or trouble chewing
• Litter box changes—going more often, straining, crying, accidents, or blood

These subtle shifts can be your cat’s way of saying, “I’m not feeling right.”
If you’re unsure, it’s always worth a check.
