Lost Souls Animal Rescue KZN Rescuing abused, stray and abandoned domestic animals. There have even been times when she risked her own safety to uplift these animals.

Tracy McLelland Smit, founder of Lost Souls Animal Rescue KZN, began her rescue work in KwaZulu-Natal in April 2016. She would respond to calls about stray, abused, and neglected puppies, adolescent and adult dogs—some in severely poor condition—offering help whenever possible, depending on available resources. Rescued animals are taken directly to the vet for treatment. Once healthy, they are pla

ced in foster care. Adult dogs with traumatic pasts are kenneled and rehabilitated until they’re ready for their forever homes. Lost Souls relies on public support in the form of cash donations and goods that can be auctioned or sold to help cover ever-growing expenses—vet bills, boarding fees, food, supplements, transport, vehicle repairs, and more. To date, Lost Souls has admitted over 6,000 neglected, abused, and abandoned animals.

😭😭Stormy’s Story: A Plea for Hope😭😭

Six months ago, Stormy was found wandering the streets—alone, frightened, and broken. Abandoned to fend for himself, he endured relentless bullying from local children and attacks from other stray dogs. His spirit was fading.
But then he was rescued by Lost Souls Animal Rescue KZN.

Since then, Stormy has begun the slow, courageous climb toward healing. His eyes now hold a flicker of trust, his body a little more strength. But his journey is far from over.
We need your help.

Stormy’s ongoing rehabilitation includes specialized emotional care, safe boarding, and professional training to help him feel secure in the world again. Every contribution—no matter how small—helps us cover these vital costs and continue showing Stormy that he is not forgotten.

Chase has been waiting far too long — 11 months in kennels 💔. This beautiful rescue boy was taken in by Lost Souls Animal Rescue KZN after being tied up and neglected. He’s now boarding at Animal Anti-Cruelty League Durban & Pietermaritzburg, dreaming of a loving family to call his own.

Pups are about 8 weeks old. They where found in a ditch, tiny and starving.

They have been staying with our foster Nicole Bradshaw with her dogs, cats and kids. They are cross breeds (Parents Unknown) they should grow to be medium.

Baby boys are look so so alike. They need home's that have at least 1 other dog to play with. A responsible human needs to be at home to look after a puppy.

He is a 15 month Border Collie cross Springer Spaniel that was abandoned on the streets. He is currently staying at the Animal Anti-Cruelty League, Durban and Pietermaritzburg in Hammarsdale Kzn.

He will be best suited with a family that knows the breed, will take him for regular walks, agility will be great for him. A family that has the time to put in with this young working breed. He has been introduced to other dogs his size or bigger. NO CATS, chickens etc. Or young children.

Our Story

Tracy Mclelland Smit, the founder of Lost Souls, started her rescues in KZN in April 2016. She would get calls of stray, abused and neglected puppies, dogs, kittens and cats, some in really bad condition, and respond to help them. There are times where she put her own life at risk to uplift these animals. Rescued animals are taken directly to the Hillcrest Vet Hospital to get treated. Once healthy they are then fostered until ready to go to a forever home. She is now a registered NPC. Lost Souls rely on the public for cash donations, goods to be auctioned or sold to raise funds to assist with the ever increasing vet bills, which to date is sitting at close to R70 000. To date Lost Souls have admitted over 1 500 neglected abused and abandoned animals.
