We would like to congratulate Anita as president for the rotary year 2024/2025.
What a lovely fair well piece from PP Bev, with permission, which is well worth a read. Thank you Bev!
"Its not the Captain that sails or saves a ship but the crew"
Sailing vessel Creating Hope in the world has docked for the final time having visited many ports along its 365 day journey. Her crew held the lines tightly whatever the waters threw at her.
She replenished her provisions at the Golf Day, a port not visited for many a year. She anchored briefly in calm bays allowing sailors to disembark and, at other anchorages, newbies were able to embark or to view her decks.
Her major destination was to provide for others and for her seas. This she did sternly not bowing once to choppy waters but kept the stars abroad and her eye on the port ahead. She sailed along a long lost RotaryDent coastline to tumultuous welcome and accolades. And although briefly, she shared some R25 000 worth of nourishment for humans and pets alike. 42 citrus trees were planted which will both prevent scurvy for the local inhabitants of the lands as well as provide life giving oxygen for all living creatures. Linen, clothing, yarn, brand new jerseys and more were gifted at familiar comfortable moorings.
During her voyage, her crew entertained elderly and other infirm folk bereft of transport and, as she crossed the equator, Neptune assisted in providing multiple gifts of year-end special treats for children and adults. And she only once tossed swimmers overboard into icy waters to swim for polio. Her EarlyAct and other youthful activities helped her remain calm and keep an eye on the distant horizon. Her crew ate well en route thanks to the many varied chefs in the galley.
So now as she becomes a relic, she watches The Magic of Rotary, a new and sturdy vessel, set sail for the first time with a strong team manning the bridge.
Gentle winds, Magic of Rotary, may the seas lie smooth before you and kindness warm your soul.
