Your slowness made time precious...
I didn't understand it then.
Back then, I kept looking at the clock.
Thinking about everything I still had to do.
The groceries.
The laundry.
The errands are waiting for me.
And there you were...
Walking slower than you used to.
Stopping every few steps just to breathe in the scent of the flowers.
Pausing to watch leaves drift across the sidewalk as if they were the most wonderful thing in the world.
I remember gently saying,
"Come on, sweetheart."
Not because I was impatient with you.
But because I didn't realize...
You weren't wasting time.
You were teaching me how to notice it.
As your muzzle turned silver and your steps became softer, our walks grew shorter.
But somehow...
They became more meaningful.
You no longer raced after every squirrel.
You no longer pulled excitedly toward every corner.
Instead, we wandered.
Together.
You taught me that slowing down wasn't losing something.
It was seeing something.
The warmth of the morning sun on our backs.
The sound of birds welcoming a new day.
The breeze moving through the trees.
The comfort of simply walking side by side without needing to hurry anywhere.
I wish I had understood sooner.
I wish I had stopped checking the time and started living inside it.
Because those slow walks...
Those quiet afternoons...
Those peaceful moments when you rested your head against my leg...
They were never interruptions.
They were life itself.
Now, when I take that same path alone, I find myself stopping where you used to stop.
I watch butterflies drift over the wildflowers.
I listen to the wind moving through the grass.
I let the sunlight warm my face a little longer.
And I smile.
Because I finally learned the lesson you had been patiently teaching me all along.
Love doesn't rush.
It lingers.
It notices.
It treasures.
Sometimes I imagine you now, running through endless green meadows beyond the Rainbow Bridge.
Strong legs carrying you effortlessly once again.
But every now and then...
I like to believe you still slow down.
Not because you have to.
But because you always knew that the most beautiful moments were never meant to be hurried.
Perhaps you stop beside a field of wildflowers.
Perhaps you watch the butterflies dance.
Perhaps you look toward Heaven's horizon, thinking of me the way I'm thinking of you.
And when that gentle breeze brushes against my face...
I wonder if it's your way of reminding me.
Slow down.
Look around.
Love is still here.
One day...
We'll walk together again.
There will be no tired legs.
No aching joints.
No clock telling us it's time to leave.
Just endless paths beneath golden skies.
We'll take our time.
We'll stop whenever you want.
And this time...
I'll never be in a hurry.
Because you showed me that the slowest moments often become the ones our hearts remember forever.
