Fun facts:
- Meet the Transcaucasian Sand Viper (Vipera transcaucasiana), a fascinating and relatively uncommon snake found in parts of Georgia and northern Turkey.

- One of its most distinctive features is the rostral appendage, or small “horn,” on the tip of its snout. This appendage is covered with several rows of scales and gives the species its unique appearance.

- The Transcaucasian Sand Viper is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List, with populations experiencing a slow decline. Its restricted distribution and habitat pressures make conservation and continued research especially important.

THE ANSWER TO “GUESS THE ANIMAL” IS:
100 FLOWER RAT SNAKE (Elaphe moellendorffi)

FUN FACT OF THE DAY!

- Meet the 100 Flower Rat Snake (Elaphe moellendorffi) a truly fascinating species from the rugged limestone landscapes of southern China and northern Vietnam!

- These snakes are perfectly adapted to their rocky environment, often hiding in deep rock crevices and caves. They are also both terrestrial and semi-arboreal, using their impressive climbing abilities to navigate steep rock faces and trees.

- One of the most surprising facts about this species is how slowly they mature! Unlike many rat snakes that reach maturity within 3–4 years, the 100 Flower Rat Snake can take over 6 years to reach full maturity.

- And they can become impressive in size, with adults typically reaching 1.8–2.5 metres in length!

THE ANSWER IS IN!

GARGOYLE GECKO
(Rhacodactylus auriculatus)

And heres the fun fact part...
They have a transparent scale that covers each eye, and they use their tongues to wipe away dust and keep their eyes clean.

Unlike Crested Geckos, Gargoyle Geckos can drop their prehensile tails when threatened and, amazingly, they can grow them back!

They can “fire up” or “fire down”! Their colours can shift from pale greys and tans to striking dark browns, oranges and reds depending on their condition and surroundings.

Unlike many geckos, they don't have heavy-duty adhesive toe pads. They rely more on their claws and prehensile tails, which means they can sometimes slip on smooth surfaces and look a little… ungraceful!

In the wild, their diet can include insects, smaller lizards, flower nectar and plant sap.

AND HERE’S THE CRAZY PART…
In rare cases, if a tail is injured or only partially detached, the healing process can result in a second tail growing alongside the original! Talk about getting a little extra!
