This is me, Lindsay — the founder and passionate force behind Pooch Palate. What started as a simple love for dogs (and a desire to give them better, healthier food) has grown into something truly special.

Driven by care, quality, and a deep understanding of what our pups deserve, I created Pooch Palate to bring you an online store where you can find all your healthy raw dog food, treats and supplements that are thoughtfully made with your dog’s wellbeing in mind.

If your dog’s skin is itchy, there are several natural remedies you can try to help soothe and calm their skin. 🍃

But let’s first rule out anything you may have been using that could be contributing to their discomfort. I.e., have you been using a human shampoo on your pooch?
Human shampoos are not formulated to cater for the specific pH balance of our pets; they can cause dryness and irritation, and can strip away the essential oils in our dog’s coat. So always ensure you are using a dog appropriate shampoo to wash your doggos.

Let’s also consider some of the more common causes of what could be contributing to the problem:
- Fleas and ticks
- Insect Bites
- Food Allergies
- Allergies in the air
- Nutritional Factors
- Dry Skin

Natural remedies may alleviate the discomfort, but remember that itching is a sign, not a diagnosis; so keep your eye on your furry friend and if all else fails – a visit to the Vet will be in order.

🥥 Coconut Oil: Rich in fatty acids that can help moisturise and soothe the skin.
🍃 Aloe Vera: Anti-inflammatory and soothing properties that can help calm itchy skin.
🍏 Apple Cider Vinegar: Has natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that can help balance your dog’s skin pH and reduce itching.
🌳 Tea Tree Oil: Has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe and calm itchy skin. However, it is quite potent so please dilute it and use with caution.
🥣Oatmeal Baths: Oatmeal has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties that can help relieve itching and irritation.
🍯 Honey, Green Tea, Milk Kefir come with benefits too

Remember to always patch test new remedies on a small area of your dog’s skin ensuring they don’t cause any adverse reactions.

“My daschund suffers with pancreatitis and was sick for months on prescription kibble and nothing was working, his skin allergies became severe as well.
Within a few days on the doggobone raw ostrich complete meal, he started acting like himself and his allergy flares became lessened as well. Changing his diet to real, unprocessed food without fillers like maize & starch was the best thing I could do for him! And costs less as well. Pooch palate was a lifesaver!!”

It is important that we feed our pets a species appropriate, nutritional and well-balanced diet.
Their needs are rather different to us humans; and it is vital that we are aware of what could be dangerous offerings and should be off limits as they are toxic to animals.

Most of us know that chocolate is not good for dogs, so don’t be swayed by the pleading big brown eyes. It could cause our doggo to vomit, have diarrhoea, tremors or seizures.
The natural composition of certain fruits, or ingredients used in some human food, when eaten by a dog, can cause severe digestive problems; allergies, anaemia, liver failure, kidney failure, low blood sugar levels, breathing problems. It’s also best to keep the pantry out of our four legged friends reach so they don’t help themselves to something they shouldn’t.
