💛 MEET OZZIE — LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME! 🐾
Have you met Ozzie? This handsome 3-year-old Golden Retriever is looking for a loving family who will appreciate his unique personality and give him the structure, patience, and companionship he deserves. 🥰
Ozzie weighs around 82 pounds and is housebroken. He sleeps quietly through the night, enjoys attention, and handles everyday activities without much fuss. He’s affectionate, confident, smart, food-motivated, and has a wonderfully independent personality.
Ozzie definitely marches to the beat of his own drum! 💛 He isn’t the type of Golden who constantly waits for instructions or follows you everywhere. Instead, he has his own opinions and personality. He’ll do best with a calm, consistent family who understands larger dogs and is willing to provide structure, repetition, and positive guidance.
Because Ozzie is a big, physical dog, a home with teenagers or adults would be best. He enjoys energetic play with other dogs and may do well with a compatible canine companion, but he could also be perfectly happy as the only dog. A home without cats would be ideal.

His name was Duke, and for eleven years, he served as an emotional support and therapy dog stationed alongside Marines recovering from combat injuries and PTSD.

He never carried a r***e. Never wore a uniform of his own. But every single Marine who passed through that recovery unit over the past decade has a story about the golden dog who somehow knew exactly when to lay his head on their lap and simply stay there.

Duke wasn't trained the way working military dogs typically are. He didn't detect explosives or track suspects. His entire job, if you could call it that, was presence.

He'd walk the halls of the recovery center every morning, stopping at doorways the way he always had, letting Marines decide whether they wanted company that day. Most days, they did.

Staff say he had an uncanny sense for which service member was having the hardest week — gravitating toward the quiet ones, the ones sitting alone at the edge of a room, long before anyone told him who needed him most.

When Duke's health began to fail this year, word spread through the unit fast. Marines who'd left the program years earlier reached out. Some drove hours just to see him one more time.

When he passed, the base decided his years of quiet service deserved to be honored the way they'd honor one of their own — full military formation, an honor guard, a flag lowered to half-staff for the ceremony.

A young Marine carried him the final walk, cradled gently across his arms, dress blues pressed, white gloves steady.

In the second photo, taken just before the ceremony, Duke rests one last time — head resting against a fellow companion, a hand gently resting on his back. Calm. At peace. Surrounded, until the very end, by exactly the kind of quiet company he spent his whole life giving to others.

Some service members never wear a uniform, never take an oath, and never ask for recognition. They just show up, every single day, for whoever needs them most. Rest easy, Duke — you served with more heart than most. 🐾🎖️🇺🇸
