For some time now I have wanted to trim the hooves down at the boys field but have not been able to gather the correct team to make it happen. That all changed yesterday and thanks to Steve and his lovely children Ruben and Neve, Bernie and Mel all the boys now have hooves that look how they're supposed to look rather than 1960's winkle-pickers! 🐑❤️
I think it brought home to all of us just how immensely strong the boys are but with one exception (I'm looking at you Larry!) they were all very well behaved and we managed the job, with a stop fro a drink and a sandwich, in a little over three hours, thank you so much guys and gals for your invaluable help. 🐑❤️
As usual, I was so caught up in the moment that I took just the one picture so thanks to Bernie and Steve for allowing me to use theirs. 🐑❤️
A little bit of advanced warning, I am looking at doing the girls when, thanks to the lovely Claire Gray, we will have two sheep seats in use, on 27th September and it would be lovely to have a decent crowd of us as usual. I am flexible on this date so if anyone wants to come but can't make the 27th I'll look at pushing it back or forwards a week. 🐑❤️
Thanks again to the assembled personages mentioned above but thanks to you all for your support, I couldn't't do it without you. 🐑❤️

What a wonderful addition to the flock Abigail and Xandia are! 🐑❤️ I've never known two sheep settle in so quickly, just a day and you'd have thought they'd always been here. 🐑❤️
And they are ever so friendly too, both of them up for a cuddle and a scratch, the only downside being they are absolutely convinced that I'm a walking food dispenser... and they could easily well be correct! 😂🐑

So on the hottest day of the year so far what do your thoughts turn to? Why woolly bobble hats of course! 😂🐑
Gill's lovely Mum and the other ladies from the Barnsley Knit & Natter group have kindly knitted us these hats to sell to raise funds for the boys and girls here. 🐑
They may not be entirely appropriate right this minute but winter will be with us before we know it and you could keep your bonce toasty with one of these little beauties. 😂
First come, first served - please comment on the post not the picture that way I can keep track of it. £10 each, the PayPal link is below. Thanks to the lovely knitters and you for buying them. 🐑👏

Back in May of 2018 we collected Nancy, Nelly, Squiggle, Squirm and Princess from the lovely Gill and Tim in Coxwold, Yorkshire and The Mirkwood Rest Home for Retired Sheep was born. 🐑❤️
They have sent us two of their retirees every year since and we also play host to some of their boy retirees too. On Tuesday they dropped off the latest two, Xandia and Abigail on their way to the Royal Norfolk Show where they were showing their team in the Coloured Ryeland class. 🐑❤️
Mandy and I had the great good fortune to go along and witness what was the most successful show day they have ever had, entering six classes winning four of them and placing second in the other two as well as having the supreme champion. 🐑❤️
This is a hobby for them and not a business and the love and care they have for their animals shines out like a beacon, to say that Mandy and I were absolutely made up for them is something of an understatement... hard act to follow though! 😂🐑
I attend agricultural shows with mixed feelings these days but yesterday was certainly one of the better ones and I also bumped into Charlie Harding who I went to agricultural college with a mere fifty years ago who was judging the Suffolk sheep! 😳 A truly great day shared with truly wonderful people and all thanks to the lovely Elaine who looked after the boys and girls here whilst I was away. 🐑❤️

Hello friends of Mirkwood! Every year the delightful Gill and Tim from Coxwold send us two of their retirees and I normally have a lovely trip up there to collect them 🐑❤️
This year they are showing their gorgeous sheep at the Royal Norfolk Show and so they very kindly dropped them off on their way through. 🐑❤️
I give you Xandia and Abigail being the light one and dark ones respectively. They haven't stopped eating since they stepped off the trailer and I have no doubt whatsoever they will fit right in, welcome to the rest of your lives ladies! 🐑❤️

*** RIP Bill Weasley 14.03.2021 to 22.06.2025. ***
Yet again I am deeply saddened to have to tell you that another one of our number passed peacefully away in his sleep last night. 🐑💔
This is rapidly becoming a year I want to forget though I still wouldn't swap what I do for all the tea in China. 😢 Little Bill joined us along with three of his brothers and Emily in October of 2023 when his former owner passed away and the family had neither the knowledge nor the inclination to look after them and so they came to live here. 🐑❤️
Bill has spent the last two years being a happy little chappy and munching his way through life like an expert. Three days ago he went off his food though in no way did he look like a candidate for the exit door, I medicated him with antibiotics and steroids and various stomach concoctions but last night he obviously decided that he had had enough and went to sleep never to wake again. 🐑💔
He was a Southdown and a proper little cutie, friendly as anything and I will miss his happy little face every time I turned up to feed them. He may not have had the longest life but a lot longer than most boy sheep and I'm fairly sure he was happy both with his former keeper and us, gonna miss you BillyBill. 🐑💔🌈

This weekend the lovely Kimberly is coming to Boston from Brighton for a weekend of sheepishness and parkrun. 🐑🏃‍♀️
This Saturday after parkrun we would like to trim the toenails of the boy sheeps as they are getting pretty overgrown again. 🐑✂️
The sheep seat is a wonderful bit of kit and they sit in it as good as gold but they are decidedly on the chunky side and getting them into the seat in the first place takes a degree of effort. 🪑🐑
This is where you come in, do any of my Boston homies have a couple of hours to spare from 11 o'clock on Saturday? I'll keep you fed and watered and Sproxton Andy (pictured) says he would love to have his toenails back to a more normal size again... thank you in advance. 🐑❤️
