Hugo came into my life in early 2017 and brought joy and love to a lonely home. He and I had adventures up and down the west coast; hiking in the mountains, walking on the beaches, exploring forest trails and and wading in rivers, playing in dog parks and taking trips around the neighborhood. I lack the words to describe the peace and contentment he's brought me over the years. Along the way, Lina came into my life and he gave her his heart as well as she took him into her heart as well. We're going to miss how he'd take over the couch and take turns curling up against her and then against me in bed. How he'd give me the huge puppy eyes if he saw me eating something tasty. How he'd lose his mind daily at 4pm when we were about to feed him. Everyone that got to spend any time with was touched by his warm and affectionate nature.
A bit over a week ago, his appetite decreased markedly. A few days after, we got him examined and it was discovered he had histiocytic sarcoma in the liver. Over the past few days, it's been increasingly apparent that cancer is draining the life out of him. We've made the heartbreaking decision to end his suffering this Friday. Our hearts are breaking but we're grateful to everyone here and out in the world that gave him the love that he richly deserved.
His last days will be spent having whatever outdoor adventures he has energy for, eating all the treats and getting all the love we have for him.
