So I realize that most of the pictures I have posted lately are of Rocket and/or Merlin. The truth is, getting pictures of Cody is just a bit difficult and would nearly all be the same, these days. We are pretty sure Cody is, if not completely blind, has very limited vision these days. Maybe dark shapes but that's about it. He gets around fine for the most part but every now and then he clips a corner, shorts a jump (difficulty making jumps has gotten worse the past 4 months). We still use "baby/pet" gates to keep Merlin out of certain areas, one being our bedroom upstairs. The gate we use is halfway down the hall and it has a cat-sized opening (we use the same type of gate to keep Merlin out of the living room/dining room area where the largest cat tree is set up in front of the living room window). Cody bumps the side of the the opening a couple times a week. He also has bumped smack into Merlin. Merlin play chases Rocket at times and he used to try to with Cody but he's stopped, like he knows Cody can't play like that. He's been thoroughly checked out by his vet and tests were run to see if there is an underlying issue that has caused the loss of sight. There's no cloudiness to his eyes but his pupils hardly dilate much unless he's right by and looking straight at my desk lamp. His health is fine, he just can't see, so we are trying to not move furniture or leave things like boxes out, in his way. I'm not sure Cody even thinks about not being able to see going by the way he still tries to jump from my desk to the floor, or to a chair, or from the floor to the little table his bed is on near my desk. He only really started to use the pet steps I got him in the past few months and he still leaps off the table or desk down to the floor more often than not (he does use it most of the time to get up). He does spend a LOT more time snoozing in one of the 3 beds I have near or on my desk. Yes, 2 cats and we have to have 3 beds, no sense to that. The "silver lining" is that Cody wants to be around people a lot more. He's always liked being in the same room with people, even when we've had guests over. He's never liked being held but he's always enjoyed attention, being talked to and petted, as long as his feet don't leave the ground and he's not restrained. The sad part is that he does, at times, become confused and will sing the song of his people loudly and rather heart-breakingly and wants me to call out to him. I'm not sure if it's confusion like senility or that he can't tell where I'm at and he's like in the living room. He never does it while we are both in the same room and usually not when he's in the family room (where my desk is). He also really does not trust Rocket and Rocket can be quite a brat so that distrust is not misplaced.

Good thing Rocket's so dang cute because he is such a butthead. Not content with taking Cody's favorite heated bed, he has to take BOTH heated beds near my desk.

Merlin is such a weird dog. We know he's got herding breeds in his make-up but instead of trying to "herd" me around, he stops me from going somewhere. He will stand across the hall and lean his hip into my knees, blocking my path forward. He does this especially if there's someone at the door (he hears my Ring camera alert on my phone), including if it's my husband. This dog doesn't usually bark at someone ringing the doorbell, or walking the path along our fence, but he seems to get pretty protective at times. The other day he was laying across the top of our stairs and rolled, and kept rolling down the stairs (which scared me, worried he'd be hurt). He landed on the landing, jumped to his feet and dashed up the stairs to lean so hard against the front of my legs that he pushed be backwards a couple of steps. Evidently he was protecting me from the evil stairs that had just pulled him down half a flight.
