Charlie and I have taken a huge step back from social media this year, but we hope all of our friends are doing well. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case for so many people. Many of us seem to be struggling.

As we prepare to begin a new year, I want to take this opportunity to address those feelings with you. The other day a friend said that she feels somewhere between stuck and lost in this new normal of a world we live in. I think so many of us feel that way. If that’s you, I hope you recognize that you are not alone! Rightfully so, there are emotional repercussions of living through a global pandemic!

Another friend explained his belief that it’s very harmful that we’re told to strive for happiness, which somehow measures the success of our lives. Happiness in life is not an achievable goal—emotions are constantly fluctuating. We’re setting ourselves up for failure. Instead we need to strive to lead lives where we aim to be engaged and fulfilled. These are much more obtainable goals on a ladder that’s easier to continue to climb even when we backslide.

Instead of “Happy New Year,” Charlie, Wesley, and I are wishing all of our furiends a engaging and fulfilling new year!

Welp, now we know why I’m not a very talkative dog. Mom asked me to find my voice in communicating to Wesley when I’ve had enough biting with his razor blade teeth. Found it. This is my voice (apparently)!

Today my Uncle Riley passed peacefully over the rainbow bridge at 13 1/2 years old. He was my biological uncle on my mom’s side and was my role model in being an ultimate good boy.

His mom referred to him as her once in a lifetime dog, which my mom related to and now calls me (don’t tell Wesley).

We are grateful to have had him in our lives and will miss him so much! Rest In Peace, sweet angel.

Sending love and support to Riley’s family, who gave him the best and most fulfilling life.

This week would have been our great-grandma’s 98th birthday (last week was the three year anniversary of our loss). Happy Birthday in heaven, Grandma Phyllis!
This was her dog. She always told mom she had the best behaved dog in the world. He never got into any trouble, was housetrained, and could hold his “down” indefinitely. He is ours now and we treasure him in our home as he is a reminder of a very special person. My great-grandma always carried dog treats in her purse for me and I know she would have loved meeting my baby brother, Wesley. I can just picture her lighting up from his constant beaming smile.
