A Palm Beach Gardens homeowner contacted Critter Drama after hearing a loud screeching noise every night shortly after dark. She knew something was in her yard, but she couldn't identify the animal—only the sound.
Before calling us, she reached out to two other companies. One ended the conversation when she couldn't describe the animal making the noise. Another advised they would spread Epsom salt around the property.
We explained that using salt to control Cuban Tree Frogs (or any frog) is generally a poor solution. The amount needed to affect frogs can also harm beneficial wildlife and damage landscaping, and heavy rain can wash it away.
Hoping for a less expensive fix, she tried the salt treatment. Two days later, after a heavy Florida rainstorm, the frogs were still there and the nightly screeching continued.
Critter Drama was then called in to solve the problem. On our first visit, we removed six Cuban Tree Frogs. Two days later, we returned and removed the remaining two frogs. Since then, she has been able to enjoy her yard in peace without the nightly noise.
When it comes to invasive species, identifying the problem correctly and using a targeted solution can save both time and money. At Critter Drama, we focus on identifying the problem and targeting the source, rather than pouring salt on an open wound and hoping for the best.

A couple of years ago, my dog had a terrifying encounter with a cane toad in our yard here in South Florida. Within a very short time, she went from being normal to extremely sick and unresponsive. Her temperature spiked to 107°F, and it was a true emergency.
I rushed her to the vet, and she arrived within 30 minutes of exposure. I called on the way and told them I was arriving with a dog suspected of bufotoxin (cane toad) poisoning. That phone call made a huge difference because they were able to prepare and act the moment I pulled up to the curb. She was in critical condition when we arrived, but because they were ready, she received treatment immediately. After 24 hours of intensive care, she was stable enough to come home, where she fully recovered within a few days.
It was a scary reminder of how dangerous cane toads can be for dogs, especially in our area. I’m sharing this so other pet owners are aware: even a quick interaction can become life-threatening very fast. Fast action made all the difference in her case.
She is a 65-pound dog, and it’s possible her size gave her more resilience. If she had been smaller, I believe the outcome would have been worse.

I am working on a series of information that will be printable. Please feel free to print/share. Whether you are a client or not, I don't care, this is free information so long as you don't alter it without my permission. This first flyer is about "Why are cane toads bad?" I created it for people who walk dogs, but really, the information is good for everyone.
