A great reminder as we head into our busy season. Especially if you have a large breed dog or a barrel chested dog.

The heat has arrived, and I have had conversations with dog owners about shaving their dogs to keep them.
This is something that I would not recommend as their hair actually helps them to stay cool. Their sweat or water from swimming stays in their fur and when the wind blows, it helps to cool them. Take them on activities early in the day when it is cooler, and let them stay home where it is cool during the heat of the day. Never leave them in the car on a hot day, and remember that if the pavement is hot to your touch, it can create blisters on you your dogs pads.

A lot of my clients believe that socialization is about their dogs playing with other dogs. Socialization should be about introducing your dog to all of the things that will be a part of its life, and doing so in a way that adds to your dogs confidence.
