Don't forget, the Losing Lulu summit starts today and the talks are available for free! Behavioral euthanasia is a hard topic, but an important one to learn about.

I usually love Millers Forge clippers because usually they're sharp, easy to use, and consistently good quality. This is the first time I think I've had the medium ones (I've used the large orange handled ones and they were good), but if you're thinking of grabbing some clippers for cooperative care, avoid these ones! They've consistently cracked the nails rather than cutting nicely, no matter how small of a sliver I take off.

My father's going into open heart surgery later today so thoughts, prayers, good vibes, and, of course, cute dog pics all welcome ❤️

Edit: He's out of surgery and resting! All went well!

Cowboy figured out how to use a Bob-A-Lot! He's also decided he loves it. And really that's a big thing for him because it makes a deep sound as it moves, it creates some vibrations, and it hits against things.

Cowboy has a lot of thoughts about the world. At times it's too loud, it's too weird, it moves in unexpected ways, and sometimes it's a little too much.

When he first encountered this toy, he crept towards it, got a little startled, then decided it wasn't for him and avoided it because new stuff is scary for him.

So it's been in the background as we built up his feelings of security and optimism. I didn't force him to 'overcome' his fears by making him interact with it, it was just off to the side, away from the action as we played familiar games. And then it became safer, more familiar. And now it's awesome!

So many times we want to prove to our dogs that something is safe because we know it is, but our dogs don't and their feelings matter. Just because in our mind nothing bad happened in an interaction where we forced our dog to interact with something, doesn't mean they felt the same way and it doesn't mean they're more confident now.

Want a secret?

You don't have to spend a ton of extra time making your enrichment beautiful if you don't have the energy. Some mornings I just pour a scoop of Mork's breakfast on a snuffle mat, and, guess what? He still enjoys it, and he still spends time snuffing around for the kibble as he goes.

It's still effective enrichment and it's still better than a bowl.

I'm so proud of Cowboy and his parents for their work this weekend! We took an adventure for our confidence building Practice Session and went to .dogs for a private rental!

Cowboy was a little overwhelmed at times, but after he found out they had his favorite balls to play with, he warmed up and pounced, chased, and chewed with his parents! Even with construction sounds and more going on!

Junebug and I enjoyed some time to hang out towards the end of our session. Her brain was tired! We worked on fetch, putting her harness on nicely, doing her nails on a scratch board, and of course cuddling!

Did you know our Walk & Trains are nice just to keep your dog's brain engaged and for them to do something fun? We have clients that enroll for when they're at work, some people enroll their pups when life gets a little busy on the human side of things, and others do it to work towards specific behaviors!

Our October has a few sessions left for one day a week, two day a week, or three day a week sessions! Email us to learn more at [email protected]!

Valor and I took a hike to find some Paw Paws. These wild fruit grow throughout Ohio and have a pretty short season toward the end of summer/beginning of fall. They taste like a mix of bananas, mangoes, and custard.

Valor was a little too good at collecting seeds and burrs (seriously, check on your friends with long haired dogs who hike, we're not okay!! 😂 ) so we opted not to go off trail much, but we saw some trees along the path and had fun exploring a creek bed together.

We do hour long Walk & Trains with him and lately we've been going to parks together to build up some confidence through pattern games, scent work, and play. These Day Training appointments are perfect for during the work day to get your dog some fun practice while you're busy. We have some openings for October still!

We also have been starting to work new indoor locations and Chasing Trails LLC is great in terms of accomodations for fearful or reactive pups for their private rentals!
