For those of you who don’t know me, I wanted to introduce myself and give a quick overview of my pet sitting services.

My name is Rebecca. I am a registered veterinary nurse and offer home pet sitting visits for cats, rabbits and other small furries 🐰🐈🐁

I have been a veterinary nurse for 7 years (registered for 5) and have a special interest in all things feline! I have completed the ISFM feline nursing certificate and understand the unique needs of our pet cats.

I offer one or two visits per day and can discuss your specific needs.

The benefit of having a pet sitter visit your home is allowing your pet(s) to stay in their familiar, safe environment which some cats may find less stressful than going into a cattery.

The areas I cover include Clifton, Shefford, Langford and Henlow.

there is no such thing as ‘cat safe lillies!’

It has come to our attention that pollen-free lilies are being marketed as a ‘safe’ option for cat owners. All parts of the lily are toxic, not just the pollen. A pollen-free lily will not be safe for cats and the advice to cat owners to avoid lilies remains the same. https://icatcare.org/advice/lethal-lilies/

** Product Recall**

There is a voluntary recall happening from today for some brands of cat foods due to a possible link to the development of serious disease in cats eating them.

The affected products are from some ranges of AVA, available in Pets At Home, Applaws and Sainsbury's cat food.

For Applaws products it is only packs with a Best Before Date of Dec 2022 to Best Before Date of June 2023 and a site reference code of GB218E5009.

For AVA it is all batches and best before dates

For Sainsburys’ products it is all batches and best before dates

If your cat has been eating these diets, it may be wise to contact your vet to discuss it with them and possibly run some precautionary blood tests.

However, it is important to note that this is still a precaution and no definite link or cause has been found yet.

Important advice from the British Veterinary Association regarding Cats and Corona-Virus

Cats are already adapting to changes in routine with many people working from home and can easily become stressed and unwell 😫

Vets are open for emergency appointments and if you have any concerns about your cat please contact your usual vet and they can advise you of their protocols! 👩‍⚕️ 🐾 👨‍⚕️

*CATS*

There is currently no evidence that Covid-19 can be transmitted from cats to humans. COVID-19 outbreaks are due to human-human contact. Cat owners infected with COVID-19 should minimise contact with their cat where possible and should follow good hygiene protocols (i.e. handwashing before and after handling).

To date, no research has been done to see if the virus can be transmitted on pet fur. Pet fur is porous, so is less likely to transmit the virus than a smooth surface, however, all pet owners are advised to wash their hands before and after contact with their pet. Bathing is not necessary for cats living with owners who are infected with COVID-19.

Cat owners with COVID-19 should, if possible, try to minimise the amount of time their cat spends outdoors. However, it is also important to consider the welfare of the individual cat when making an assessment regarding outside access. Some cats will find staying inside very stressful, so outside access should be decided on each individual cat’s lifestyle and temperament.

The public should be advised not to interact with any cats that are not their own. Also, due to the risk of unwanted kittens and spread of feline disease, it is not recommended for unneutered and unvaccinated kittens to go outside.

It’s valentine’s day tomorrow and if you’re lucky enough to be receiving some lovely
flowers (or you’re the one buying them) please make sure you ❌ DO NOT buy lily’s if you have cats in your house ❌ Lily’s are HIGHLY TOXIC to cats (the whole flower not just the pollen)
