This is a carving of what is thought to be the Emela-Ntouka. It is described as a rhinoceros-like creature that is said to reside in Central Africa. The animal’s name comes from the Lingala language and can be translated to the “killer of the elephants”. It is typically said to be the size of an African Forest Elephant - about 8 feet tall and around 6,000 pounds.
The carving was purchased by French cryptozoologist Michel Ballot in a region set between Cameroon and Central African Republic in 2005. However this is not the only one that exists, there was another one that was seen in 1997. According to Ballot : “We are in the presence of two identical sculptures, made at different times by different artists, which would suggest that the animal is well known to the local populations.”
