Ever wonder why your dog's nose is wet, and is it normal?

Dogs secret a thin layer of mucus that helps catch scent particles from the air. Then they'll lick their noses so that the olfactory glands on the roof of their mouth can tell them more about their environment.

Also, dogs have sweat glands in their noses. By secreting sweat, they help regulate their body temperature. By the way, they also have sweat glands in their paws as well!

Wet noses are completely normal (as are dry noses), but the mucus should be clear and thin. If you see changes in the mucus of your dog's nose, we always recommend reaching out to your vet for more information.
