It’s National Siamese Cat Day!
Did you know Siamese cats get their unusual coloring because of a temperature-sensitive gene that inhibits color?
Their fur pattern is a living heat map; the gene doesn’t stop color from forming in cooler areas of their body, like their ears, nose, and tail.

As part of Women’s History Month, we’d like to honor the work of philanthropist Caroline Earle White, who, after being instrumental in the creation of the Pennsylvania SPCA, led the women’s branch and was instrumental in creating the first animal shelter in the United States in 1869. That shelter continues to operate today.
