UPDATE: Help us find the right home for Prophet 🐐

We recently learned that Prophet, our newest rescue, is a carrier of CL and Johne’s disease. While this means he can’t live with other sheep, goats, or cows, he can still enjoy a full, happy life with horses, donkeys, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and people. He can also live with other goats who carry the same diseases.

After careful thought, we’ve decided the best thing for Prophet, and for all the animals at The Gentle Barn California, is to find him a safe and loving new home that’s the right fit for him.

If you or someone you know can give Prophet the forever home he needs to thrive, please click the link in the comments and complete our adoption application. We’re eager to help him start his next chapter as soon as possible!
Thank you for standing with us as we work to ensure the best life for every animal in our care 💚

🚨The Gentle Barn is in serious trouble, and we NEED your help.

For 25 years, we’ve rescued animals with nowhere else to go, animals who endured abuse, neglect, and trauma, and promised them they would be safe and loved for life. We’ve faced challenges before, but nothing like this. Without immediate support, we will be forced to make difficult decisions in the coming weeks that will impact the animals and communities who depend on us most.

Like so many nonprofits, The Gentle Barn has been hit hard by reductions in grants, rising tariffs, skyrocketing prices, and overall economic uncertainty. We’ve done everything we can to cut costs and stretch our resources, but it’s simply not enough. We urgently need your help to keep The Gentle Barn moving forward.

Your donation today will go directly to:
🟢 Daily Animal Care — Nutritious food, safe shelter, veterinary care, and essentials for nearly 200 animals across our sanctuaries.
🟢 Emergency Care — Lifesaving surgeries, diagnostics, and round-the-clock support. Each emergency can cost $10,000+
🟢 Facility Repairs & Animal Transportation — Address critical infrastructure needs.
🟢 Outreach & Community Engagement — Expand programs that connect animals and people, grow our support network, and build a sustainable future.

We know this is a big ask, but if you’ve ever believed in what we do, this is the moment to stand with us. Every dollar truly makes a difference. Together, we can overcome this crisis and keep our promise to the animals.

Help us continue providing sanctuary, hope, and healing for animals and people alike.

When she finally hears her name 😭 Daisy isn’t fooled by rhymes—when we call her name, she and her whole Gentle Barn Tennessee herd come running!

As Lewis turns 5, we’re looking back on his adorable hedgehog cuddles and his incredible, inspiring life 💚

Born on a slaughterhouse floor and suffering from severe pneumonia, Lewis began his healing journey not just in our sanctuary, but in the home of our founders, Ellie Laks and Jay L Weiner—wrapped in blankets, cuddling stuffed animals, and fighting for his life. He has overcome incredible odds.

Now, five years later, Lewis is a strong, joyful, and kind soul who reminds us every day what love and second chances can do. He’s surrounded by an amazing family and a community that has cheered him on since day one.

Please join us in wishing Lewis a very happy 5th birthday—and be inspired by his resilience and the joy he brings to us all! 🎉🐮

UPDATE: Our new goat, Prophet, has been doing well during his quarantine at our Sun Chlorella USA Healing Center, especially in overcoming his fear of people.
However, we received unexpected test results from the veterinarian: Prophet is a carrier of CL and Johne’s disease, both highly contagious diseases to other ruminants like cows, goats, and sheep.
Because of this, we’re heartbroken to share that Prophet cannot safely join the rest of our rescued animals at our main location.
We’re currently exploring next steps, and will do everything we can to ensure Prophet lives the safe, happy, and loving life he deserves 💚

This , we’re celebrating Lolli, who doesn’t let anything slow her down 💚

Lolli was born on a freezing winter day and wasn’t given the immediate vet care she needed. As a result, she developed frostbite that caused her to lose both of her back feet and the tips of her ears. She struggled to keep up with her family and was often left behind, crying out when alone.

Thanks to a caring neighbor, we were able to bring Lolli home to The Gentle Barn Tennessee, where everything changed. She received expert veterinary care, surgeries, prosthetics, and later a custom wheelchair that allowed her to walk, run, and play with ease. Today, Lolli zooms around the barnyard with confidence and joy! And with her mom Minnie Mae, her dad Merlin, and loving friends by her side, she’ll never be alone again 🥰

Lolli’s story is a powerful reminder that disability is one part of the journey, not something that defines it. What matters most is love, care, and being free to be yourself ❤️

Summer’s in full swing, and while we’re soaking up the sunshine, our animal friends need a little extra care to stay cool and safe during these hot months! ☀️
At The Gentle Barn, we’re keeping everyone comfortable with shady spots, pools, popsicles, and plenty of fresh water throughout the sanctuary. Animal companions at home count on you for the same kind of care, like keeping them indoors in the A/C, walking pups when the ground is cool, using sunscreen on sensitive spots, and never leaving them in the car.
And don’t forget, wildlife needs support too! Leaving a shallow bowl of water outside can be a lifesaver for birds and small animals in this heat.
Here’s to a safe, happy summer for all 💚

NEW RESCUE! 🎉
This adorable goat was seized from a cockfighting ring with hundreds of roosters and two other goats. While the other goats were adopted, no one came for this sweet boy, and the animal shelter where he was being held placed him on a euthanasia list with just 72 hours to live.
With no one else taking him in, we knew we had to step in and help. So we brought him home to The Gentle Barn 💚

He’s been in quarantine at our Sun Chlorella USA Healing Center for two weeks so far while we make sure he’s healthy and ready to safely join the rest of the barnyard. During this time, he’s getting organic food, fresh water, soft bedding, Sun Chlorella USA Algae Superfood, yummy treats, and so much love and care.

It’s clear he wasn’t treated kindly before, as he’s very scared of people, so we’re taking it slow and building his trust. Our staff and volunteers are spending time with him every day, reading, singing, and talking to him, so he can learn that he’s safe and loved here.

Already, he’s showing us how gentle, curious, and smart he is. There’s more to come on our newest arrival! Stay tuned for updates on his journey ❤️

This , we’re sharing the powerful stories of animals at The Gentle Barn who lived with disabilities and embraced life with heart, connection, and purpose 💚

Faith was rescued in 2008, blind in both eyes from an untreated infection and fighting for her life after being confined to a veal crate as a newborn. She was so weak she couldn’t stand, but with months of round-the-clock care and so much love, she healed and began to thrive.
Despite her blindness, Faith learned her pasture by heart and navigated it with such confidence you’d almost forget she couldn’t see. She moved through the world on trust and memory.
But what made Faith truly special was her heart. She was sweet, affectionate, loved music, and more than anything, she loved her bouncy ball. She treated it like her baby: mooing gently to it, cuddling it, and crying when it rolled too far away. That ball brought her comfort, joy, purpose, and safety, and we made sure she always had one close by.

Faith’s disability never held her back. She lived fully, loved deeply, and made everyone around her smile with her gentle and playful spirit. Her story reminds us what’s possible when animals are given the chance to live with love and freedom.

We’ll always carry her memory with us, and this , we celebrate the light she brought into the world ❤️
