New Beginnings For Merced County Animals Our primary focus is helping to reduce the shelter’s euthanasia rate. We rely heavily on donations and volunteers for foster and transport help.

New Beginnings for Merced County Animals is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the animals at the Merced County Animal Shelter as well other locations in Merced County. Our primary focus is helping to reduce the shelter’s euthanasia rate by providing transportation for the animals to various rescue organizations. We also take animals with medical issues out of the shelter and arrange f

or veterinary and foster care. Veterinary bills and the cost of fuel are our biggest expenses. We are a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. All contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law. (Non Profit Number 36-4704902)

🐾 A Huge Thank You to Peterson Elementary! 🐾

We are incredibly touched by the compassion and generosity of Ms. Maria VanZile’s 3rd grade class at Peterson Elementary. These amazing students held a fundraiser and raised over $1,000 to support New Beginnings for Merced County Animals! 💖

Karen and some of our sweet pups had the chance to visit the class for a presentation, and the love and excitement were contagious. The students not only helped raise funds but also got to experience the joy and responsibility of caring for rescue animals.

Special thanks to Ms. VanZile for making this connection happen and for giving her students the opportunity to make such a meaningful impact. We are deeply grateful! 🙏

Foster Found
Momma and four puppies.
Momma was found living on the side of the road and scavenging for food while her pups were left in a pile of tires.
She will do best in a quiet climate controlled shed or outdoor kennel as indoors make her a bit stressed.

The Night Sky Litter: Bottle Feeding Babies
Tragedy struck a litter of nine newborn border collie mixes, their survival hangs in the balance as volunteers are bottle feeding them right now.
Their mother, doing her best to protect and nourish them, had unknowingly eaten a poisoned gopher and passed away suddenly. The puppies, just days old, were left orphaned and helpless.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and responded with urgency and compassion, the Sheriff’s team reached out to New Beginnings for Merced County Animals. Within hours this afternoon, the tiny pups were whisked into warmth and safety, wrapped in blankets and placed in the arms of volunteers ready to bottle-feed them around the clock.

We’ve named them The Night Sky Litter—a tribute to the mother who watches over them now from the stars above.
Their names reflect the beauty, strength, and light they bring into the world:

Nova, Orion, Luna, Cosmo, Stella, Comet, Lyra, Vega, and Astrid.

Thank You for Your Support
We are deeply thankful to anyone who has the resources to help during this critical time. Donations of puppy formula and washable p*e pads are especially needed as we continue bottle feeding and care. Every contribution brings comfort, stability, and a chance at life for these sweet babies.

Your support keeps the stars shining bright for The Night Sky Litter.

🚨 Foster Found: Baby Chewbacca! 🐾
Have you ever thought about fostering? Each week, we welcome the sweetest pups into our program—smart, snuggly, and in need of a soft place to land before their transport flight.

This week, Baby Chewbacca is a whole three pounds and needs YOU. He’s a little floof with a big personality—spunky, smart, and crate trained for bedtime. He’s truly a good boy who’s just working on his potty training and will need a foster willing to provide love, patience, and a few p*e pads!

🛬 Can you give him a temporary home while he waits for his forever family?

Drop a “FOSTER” in the comments if you’re interested or want more info. Let’s get this little Wookiee the warm welcome he deserves! 💛🐶

Kittens, Kittens, Kittens
I know—we all see the never-ending posts about kittens needing help.

But here’s why: kitten season doesn’t stop.
Did you know a female cat can go into heat and get pregnant again just days after giving birth? That means one unspayed cat can lead to hundreds of kittens in just a short time.

It’s overwhelming. It’s heartbreaking. And yet—we keep showing up.
Because they need us.

Here are just a few of the kittens we helped rescue this week—tiny, fragile, and born into situations they didn’t choose. Abandoned in boxes, pulled from under porches, or found in fields with no mom in sight… they now have warmth, formula, and a fighting chance.

Foster. Donate. Spay & neuter.
That’s how we stop the cycle. That’s how we save lives.

Thank you to everyone who steps in when it feels endless. These little ones are safe because of you.

HEALTH CHECKS SAVE ANIMALS
Did you know that every single pet that comes through our program receives vaccinations, a health check, and a full evaluation by a veterinarian? It’s a vital part of what we do to make sure each rescue gets the best start possible — and it wouldn’t be possible without our amazing volunteers.

Health check days are so much fun! You get to meet the animals, support the team, and be part of the journey.

Have you ever wanted to volunteer at a health check event? Comment “VOLUNTEER” if you’d like to get more involved — we’d love to have you on the team!

Just look at these faces!!
Each one was rescued last week—and each one is a reminder of why we do what we do. Big eyes, soft paws, and hearts full of hope… these sweet souls were once at risk, but now they’re safe, warm, and starting their journey to a better life.

Whether they were found abandoned, pulled from our overcrowded shelter, or born into uncertainty—they are now part of something bigger: a second chance.

We’re so proud to have helped them take that first step toward healing, and we can’t wait to watch them thrive.

Drop a heart for these cuties and help us celebrate another week of lives saved!

169 cats. 82 dogs. 251 souls saved

In two whirlwind days, we witnessed something extraordinary—251 animals lifted out of desperation and flown toward hope. 169 whiskered faces, 82 wagging tails, and one unforgettable mission that proved what’s possible when compassion leads the way.

Behind these numbers are countless hours, late-night prep, and unshakable dedication. From the foster homes that stepped up, to the transport teams that never stopped moving, to the pilots who flew these precious lives to safety—we see you, and we THANK YOU.

Every crate carried a story:
A cat born into a hoarding case, now curled in a clean bed.
A senior dog left behind, now wagging in a loving foster home.

This wasn’t easy. It took logistics, sweat, emotion, heartbreak, and HOPE.
But we did it.
Together.

Let’s never forget what we’re capable of.

251 saved. And tomorrow, we get up and do it again.

SCHEDULED TO BE EUTHANIZED
We have a bulldog who’s been accepted by a rescue—his second chance is waiting. But without a temporary foster to hold him for just a few days, he will be euthanized.

He just needs a soft place to land and someone willing to give medicated baths twice a week until transport. That’s it.

Please don’t let this be the end for him. If you’ve ever considered fostering, this is the moment to step in and save a life.
We provide everything you need—food, supplies, support.

Even a few days can mean everything.
